We run the Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practice of Assessment https://ambatraining.com/product/level-3-award-in-understanding-principles-and-practice-of-assessment/ which can be done remotely and evidenced through a portfolio of evidence (workbook), with learning materials & resources provided.

Due to increased demand from both our corporate customers & individuals AMBA are currently now looking for expressions of interest for additional Trainers looking to become part of the team.

You must be fluent in English and be able to diversify within the role.

As far as our requirement goes we have 1 or 2 Full time positions along with ad-hoc requirements.

Predominantly based at our West Ham venue but we do train at other London locations.

You must have DS/CCTV/First Aid & relevant teaching qualifications, although we would invest in the right person & we continually invest in all our staff to compliment their training portfolios.

Wages will be industry standard plus and would depend on the role, experience and capability (for any keyboard warriors this is not saying we will pay peanuts).

If you are interested please send a C.V to [email protected] or if you'd like to have a chat then give him a call on 020 8429 1202.

For all Door Supervisors and Security Officers... NEWSFLASH (Old news actually) - you do need to attend a Top Up course and have Emergency First Aid at Work (or equivalent) prior to applying for your renewal of SIA licence.

There is so much fake news on the internet, telling people they do not need it or you only need first aid. Its 2 days, 3 exams (2 very short) and one 45 mins, 13 hours of Physical Intervention (irrespective whether you have done it before) and in date first aid before you arrive.

Whoever you go with for your course, remember time delays, especially Xmas... Stay Safe!

Search Wands (CPD Article)

Recently we have been showing the Hand Held Metal Detector to learners attending top up courses and getting feedback regarding their use in the 'real world'. Remember the learners have held a SIA licence and been operating for shortly less than 3 years or longer.

The (non-scientific) results show us that a large number (without going into arbitrary percentages) have never seen a hand held metal detector (aka search wand) and those that have know little about it.

The main claim is that the employers or the venue have not shown them how to use it. It has become clear that many training providers that are now teaching the new suite of 2021 SIA courses have not even got access to a hand held metal detector, and some are using props such as sticks or even white board markers to simulate their use.

Is it any wonder that some SIA licenced personnel are likely to allow weapons and metal objects in when some of the errors we are about to list were so prevalent in our research...

Common Errors (this list is not exhaustive)

a. Rubbing the hand held metal detector around clothing like it is an explosive swab (clothing must not be touched).
b. Searching across bare skin such as along arms and bare legs (this is basic search - not touching skin).
c. Searching over the head
d. Missing key areas where weapons are most likely to be concealed such as belt buckle, small of back, arm pits, area below buttocks, ankles etc
e. Placing the handheld metal detector between legs (front and back and going over areas more than once in a sweeping style motion up and down searching some areas of the body 4 or 5 times and normally the non-critical areas (once is more than enough).
f. Not checking pockets specifically.
g. Believing that the metal detector will find any contraband or unauthorised items such as drugs and alcohol (this is about not fully understanding the strengths and limitations of the equipment).
h. Holding the wrong aspect of the metal detector towards the body (the bit that is not the actual detection side).

We could actually go on and on regarding this...

The question is from a Continuing Professional Development point of view - what can you do?

We suggest a number a things can be done by you personally to refresh your skills and keep up to date.

1. Look at this article objectively and review the content yourself.
2. Conduct your own research into this topic and perhaps even buy a cheap metal detector (they can retail as cheap as £20 or less) to practice (I would guard against using cheap ones operationally but they are good for training).
3. Look at manufacturers instructions including instructional videos.
4. Observe areas such as court entrances, airports or museums, and the staff searching.
5. Update your CPD record with the information (this is really important if you are a trainer to maintain your 30 hours required).

We will complete an article about CPD in the near future, however we often get asked 'how' to put items that are not a course with a certificate into a CPD record. The answer is simple.

You can write 'Read AMBA training article, regarding searching and the use of the Hand Held Metal Detector. Realised that my knowledge needed updated so conducted research into the topic.

I read (add name of article (s)) and watched various manufacturers videos online (name videos).

I learnt the following that I did not already know (list what you learnt).

The impact this will have on my teaching/work is that in the future I will be able to understand fully the use of the handheld metal detector and take my knowledge I have learnt in this CPD into the classroom/workplace and I am now able to teach/conduct correct procedures.

The amount of hours you apply is deciding how much of your time spent was actual development and reflecting on what you have learnt.

If you conduct good research then may be 1.5 - 2 hours?

Good luck!

SIA License Security Training Courses & Training | Amba Training 19/11/2021

So how many of you have had 1 or more of these calls this week:

Person 1: "so we have an SIA course next week and want to know if you have a trainer available in London"?

AMBA : "I can have a look and see what we can do to help however we do not put our trainers out on a day rate, you'd be looking at a price per cohort".

Person 1: "No I will pay the trainer myself £120 a day and he can bring all his equipment to our site and also provide the certificates".

AMBA: "I'm sorry I don't think we're the right company for you, but good luck"

Person1: Hangs up.

What AMBA wanted to say: "We are a business and pay our trainers more than that, also our trainers do not provide certificates, we as a company do. There is a cost for registrations. We as a company will have to factor in travel contributions including time and charges, and losing a trainer for 6 days from the business".

We have a full calendar pretty much but we pride ourselves in helping people if we feel they really need it but we are a company with overheads who charge a fair price for a great service, have a look and tell me if I'm wrong: www.ambatraining.com

A question we are always asked in reference any SIA training is "do you have a pass guarantee?"

No we do not. The learner has to complete the course (turn up everyday and meet the hours dictated to achieve the qualification). Then there are multiple choice exams & Practical's the learner must pass.

We are lucky to have a great team with decades of experience within the industry, and always strive to assist anyone struggling.

We do however offer a free re-sit so should anyone need another go we will give additional advice and guidance and one to one training if required.

If a company offers you a guaranteed pass then best avoid them.
