Look what happened over the weekend!
Each one of our caterpillars has changed into a chrysalis!
We have now moved them to hang in the net to wait for the butterflies to emerge.

Our Pioneer room held their Book and Biscuit session on Wednesday.
Thank you to all the parents and carers who came to share books with their child.

Check in with the MEN in your life. They often do not look after their well-being.

1. Make sure as a family you all come together to socialise. It strengthens bonds.

2. Keep communication open by asking open ended questions. Eg. what made you laugh today?

3. Ask them how they are feeling.

4. What are their aspirations, ask them. It makes us feel wanted and loved when people ask us what we want.

5. Keep all GP/Dentist appointments and social events on the family calendar, keeps them included.

6. Keeping active and having a time out from responsibilities is good for your Mental Health.

Toilets and getting ready for school

Look at what we are looking after!
Our tiny caterpillars have arrived and are already growing fast.
The children in all classes will be able to experience first hand the change from a tiny caterpillars into butterflies.
Opportunities to learn new words, be curious and fascinated.
Watch this space! 🐛🦋

We have been asked to share this event.

As part of Healthy eating week, the children in Explorer room also used their home grown potatoes to make Vegetable fritters.
We used carrots as well but you can add spinach, sweetcorn or practically any vegetables!
They were very popular!
We have added a similar recipe in the comments if you would like to make some at home.

Date for your diary!

Would you like to know how you can support your child at home with their mathematical development?

Come and join Lisa and Claire to find out more.

The children in the Explorer room dug up their potatoes today. They collected them from the soil, washed them, boiled them and then ate them!
They were delicious!
This prompted lots of opportunities for learning. New vocabulary, talking about what they could see happening, counting, comparing sizes, and recalling planting the seed potatoes.

We are now waiting for the peas and strawberries to be ready.

Monday 15th May marks the first day of Walk to School week.

We are asking our families to walk to school for one whole week, or part of the journey if you live too far away.
Your child will be coming home with a Walk to School grid so they can tick off different things they see and hear on their way to school.
When it is complete, return it your child's Key person in return for a certificate.
This will also be a great opportunity for your child to learn about road safety. Follow this link for Road safety advice to protect your child.

The children in the Investigator room had the best time last week in the mud! There were so many learning opportunities and the children were in their element!
If your child has a waterproof jacket / trousers/suit that they can wear in school, this would be very much appreciated!
We are looking to buy more for school as well.

Children learn so much through messy play!
Please dress your child in clothing that you don't mind getting dirty.

Great post from childhood and family services!!

Jo T and Claire took some children to Sainsbury's this week to buy ingredients to make a cake back in school.
The children walked safely holding hands with their adult, used their picture shopping list to find the items they needed, looked at the prices and paid for their shopping at the checkout.

We were very proud of you all !

Anne has been looking after our front garden with the children from the Pioneer rooms.

This week, two boys helped to write the signs on the growing troughs so everyone knows what is growing there.

We are growing courgettes, herbs, peas, radishes, brocolli and lettuce!

Some of the children in the Investigator room have started attending our Forest school once a week.

We climbed trees, played Hide and Seek and enjoyed a snack and a story in the woodland area of Hurst Drive School.

At the end of the session our Forest school leader, Michele, came into our garden for a camp fire. She toasted bread on the fire which we ate together and sang camp fire songs.
