Certain people seem to collect rhythm, languages, and continents the way other people collect fridge magnets - which brings us neatly to Stele Kasongo, the newest Dance Teacher at Razzamataz Hackney!
Specialising in Afro, Hip-Hop, Commercial K-pop, and Western/Southern Soul Country Line Dancing, Stele’s theatrical pilgrimage reads like an international adventure novel.
“I’m a professional dancer, choreographer, performer and dance instructor, born and raised in Belgium. I’ve been living in the UK for the past 16 years, and I’ve also lived and worked in Japan.”
Having survived three years dancing in the West End with Miss Maya, performing on Britain’s Got Talent, winning the 2015 UK K-pop International Competition, and sharing a stage with FX (one of the biggest kpop girl band in the world!), Stele arrives in Hackney armed with an extraordinary artistic scope:
“I’m proud that my journey has never been limited to one style or one country I’ve always been curious, adaptable and willing to try something new.”
When asked what he aims to bring to Razzamataz, Stele is bringing a distinctly global flair - and perhaps a secret language lesson:
“I’d love to bring a French touch and a completely different vibe to Razz! Because I’m Belgian, have lived in Japan and have spent the last 16 years in the UK, I have a really international perspective. I want to use that to make my classes exciting, fresh and memorable... And why not introduce them to some super-cool French artists along the way? I’d love to sneak in a few French words and expressions while we dance and have fun so they’re learning a little French without even realising it!”
His core philosophy on dance instruction?
“I love bringing different cultures and influences into dance and creating classes where children can learn, express themselves and, most importantly, have fun... My goal is to help children build confidence in a fun and enjoyable way, using some of the best and most exciting songs that connect with their generation, while also expanding their musical palette.”
Finally, when pressed on the vital question of which garden produce possesses true Main Character Energy, Stele offered a masterclass in culinary respect:
“Definitely sweetcorn! It might look innocent, but somehow it always steals the show. Put it on a BBQ, in a salad or covered in butter and suddenly everyone is talking about it. Sweetcorn knows how to make an entrance and I respect that energy!” 🌽✨
Come say hi to Stele in Dance class this term! 🕺✨
