Welcome to Terminology Tuesday!
In this series we will post falconry terminology and explanations that you may know... or not 🤔
Starting the series off, we have Furniture 🛋
A common word used for the equipment you might find on a bird of prey.

To most people, using the word furniture might raise a few eyebrows 🫣 after all, why would a hawk need a sofa?
Anyway, it is one of the many interesting traditional terms that we will look at across this series.

Why is it called furniture?
There are a few suggested explanations, mostly coming from the older English meaning, furnishing something is to equip it, hence, bird of prey furniture.
It crops up in different contexts too, e.g, horse furniture, ship furniture and military furniture.

Fantastic weekend at the Raptor Fair, national centre of birds of prey.

It was great to see everyone and to continue spreading awareness about the mission of the Raptor Awards.
