Dear students.
Working within government guidelines have decided to stop all driving lessons until further notice to ensure the safety of our amazing students.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is suspending driving tests in England, Scotland and Wales for up to 3 months from 21 March 2020.
The decision has been made to help prevent the spread of coronavirus as tests lead to extended contact between candidates, instructors, and examiners in vehicles.
It is vital that those who need a test can get one so DVSA is offering tests to those who have a critical need, such as the NHS and drivers delivering goods across the UK.
Those who have tests cancelled will have priority when testing resumes. DVSA will contact everyone with a test booked during this time to let you know the test has been cancelled and that it will automatically re-book for you.
I ask you all to keep safe, isolate and keep contact with others to a minimum.
I look forward to being able to teach all our amazing students as soon as this pandemic is finally over.
I wish you all the best during this difficult time.
Be safe to safe others

Drink driving
The Highway Code applies to England, Scotland and Wales and is essential reading for everyone.
Rule 95
Do not drink and drive as it will seriously affect your judgement and abilities.
In England and Wales you MUST NOT drive with a breath alcohol level higher than 35 microgrammes/100 millilitres of breath or a blood alcohol level of more than 80 milligrammes/100 millilitres of blood.
In Scotland the legal limits are lower. You MUST NOT drive with a breath alcohol level higher than 22 microgrammes/100 millilitres of breath or a blood alcohol level of more than 50 milligrammes/100 millilitres of blood.
Alcohol will
give a false sense of confidence
reduce co-ordination and slow down reactions
affect judgement of speed, distance and risk
reduce your driving ability, even if you’re below the legal limit
take time to leave your body; you may be unfit to drive in the evening after drinking at lunchtime, or in the morning after drinking the previous evening.
The best solution is not to drink at all when planning to drive because any amount of alcohol affects your ability to drive safely. If you are going to drink, arrange another means of transport.

Ten reasons why Apple will be worrying car makers to the core
Rumours have been rife over the past week that Apple will be going head-head with the automotive giants by producing its own car.
Apparently project Titan is underway at Apple’s HQ, with hundreds working on an electric car programme. But will it see the light of day?
Here’s why we think Apple should be taken seriously:
1. Apple is cash rich, will a reported $180 billion (yes, billion) to spend – more than enough to fund a complete all- new car company.
2. Many of its senior team have car industry experience, from senior vice-president Eddy Cue, who’s also on the board of Ferrari, to Marc Newson, who designed the 1999 Ford 021C concept car.
3. It’s been learning lots about the car business through working with car makers on CarPlay.
4. If there’s one company Apple wants to beat. It’s Google – Car makers are small fry in comparison.
5. It already has a network of retailers around the world who could sell on Apple car.
6. Recruiting talented engineers is already a big problem for the car business- the likes of Apple is far more appealing to young software engineers.
7. Cars being increasingly software-based play directly into Apple’s hands.
8. According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is already talking to potential manufacturers.
9. Tesla. Okay, so it’s losing money, but it’s making waves. And I refer you to point one.
10. Apple is the most valuable company on the planet, recognised and admired the world over with millions of existing customers – not a bad starting point for a new car company.
So, will it happen? It’ll be a massive task for Apple, but car companies are at their most innovative when challenged – and that could benefit us all.
New Driving Test to be Trialled in 20 Test Centres Across the UK
February 05 2015
The DVSA have announced that the new practical driving test will be trialled at 20 test centres in the UK as part of new research aimed at improving and developing the practical driving test. This proposed new test will see various changes and the new trials aim to ascertain the effectiveness of the proposed changes to the driving test. It must be stressed that only the 20 test centres named will be affected.
Part of the new driving test will include changes such as:
- Using a Sat Nav
- Different manoeuvres
- Answering 'show me tell me' questions on the move whilst in the car
It is important to note that you will be doing this new driving test only if your driving instructor is taking part in the trials. To avoid any confusion in this make sure you speak to your driving instructor.
The 20 driving test centres for the trial are:
Basildon
Bishopbriggs (Glasgow)
Blackpool
Cheetham Hill (Manchester
Enfield
Farnborough
Folkestone
Handsworth (Sheffield)
Kings Heath (Birmingham)
Lincoln
Lower Gornal
Musselburgh (Edinburgh)
Mitcham
Norwich
Oxford
St Helens
Sunderland
Swansea
Weston-super-Mare
York
If you are an ADI who operates out of any of these test centres and you would like to take part in the trials you can do so by contacting the DVSA via [email protected] for further information.

Don't forget that you must take both parts of your driving licence - the photocard and the paper counterpart - to your theory and driving test.
You’ll need to apply for a replacement driving licence if you lose either part. This could take up to 15 days, and you may have to rearrange your test if this happens.
