A comforting milestone has been reached for families across the country, ensuring classrooms are a much safer place for children with severe allergies πŸŽ’πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Starting this September, all schools will be legally required to stock life-saving adrenaline auto-injectors, commonly known as allergy pens, for use in emergencies.

This game-changing move is part of Benedict’s Law, a brand-new set of national safety standards announced by the Department for Education.

The legislation mandates proper allergy training for around 1.5 million school staff members, giving teachers the confidence to act quickly, and requires every school to maintain clear, robust allergy policies and individual student healthcare plans πŸ“πŸŒŸ

This incredible victory is the result of years of tireless, heartbreaking campaigning by Helen and Peter Blythe alongside the National Allergy Strategy Group.

The couple sadly lost their beautiful five-year-old son, Benedict, to a tragic allergic reaction at school back in 2021 after an inquest revealed delays in administering medication and a lack of clear procedures.

In an incredibly moving statement, Helen shared her immense pride that her son's legacy will now protect hundreds of thousands of children for generations to come, moving the country into a brand-new era of allergy safety β€οΈπŸ•ŠοΈ

Education Minister Olivia Bailey and Public Health Minister Sharon Hodgson both praised the family's immense determination, emphasizing that having these protections in place is an absolute essential.

While school leaders' unions have welcomed the step, they are rightfully reminding the Government that central funding and steady national medicine stocks are needed so teachers can easily manage and reorder these vital supplies.

Specialist groups like The Allergy Team are already working hard through the summer to get schools fully prepped and ready for the big September launchπŸ’ͺ✨

I had such an amazing win with a year 8 student today. We were making macaroni and cheese and the recipe asks for tomato to be sliced and put on top. He was not keen. After seeing the beautiful tomato that his mum sent, I had him rinse it under the tap, I then cut it in quarters and gave a quarter a sprinkle of salt, I gave it to him, and told him to try it, he took a small bite, I watched out the corner of my eye, his eyes grew big, he took another bigger bite and within 5 minutes he had devoured the entire (larger than normal) tomato. He kept says β€œmmm this is good”. I love when I get kids to try new foods. I hope he is converted πŸ… πŸ’›
