Organised in collaboration with the FIDE Chess in Education Commission and the ECU Education Commission, the weekend will bring together teachers, tutors, and 🎓 education specialists to discover how chess can foster lifelong skills.

Through a series of interactive Masterclasses, participants will gain hands-on tools and insights that can be immediately applied in the classroom. You’ll also receive a booklet on all Masterclass materials and enjoy opportunities to connect with fellow educators over lunch and refreshments, which are included with your ticket.

Tiago Hirth, Ph.D, is a maths & science communicator, researcher and educator. His main interests are Recreational Mathematics, Magic and Games. He is a member of the Inter University Center for History of Science and Technology (CIUHCT) and works with Associação Ludus popularizing and promoting mathematics, among others through the Circo Matematico project, which he jointly funded a decade ago. He does various consultation works for school book publishers, recreational mathematics foundations, and science centers. He believes that play is serious and mathematics is the greatest game of them all.

Long-time working partners, Rita Atkins and John Foley on the 1st day of this amazing conference in Portugal. Rita and John have been involved in various Erasmus+ projects on Chess, Mathematics and Strategy Games with Jorge Nuno Silva the organiser of the Recreational Mathematics Colloquium. Their collaboration was the birth of Logiqboard. An amazing platform to create games and puzzles on a chessboard to be used in education.

John Foley es el director de ChessPlus Limited, una consultoría educativa en ajedrez y ha desarrollado enfoques innovadores para la pedagogía del juego. Es concejal de la Comisión de Educación de la Unión Europea de Ajedrez y presidente del Kingston Chess Club. Estudió filosofía en la Universidad de Oxford y fue campeón juvenil de ajedrez en Londres.
