A day nursery and pre school for babies and children aged from 3 months to 5 years old, based in South West London. Amazing 5 acre site and children interact on a daily basis with the older people resident in the home on the site on which it is co-located. The education is based on a Jewish ethos but welcomes children from all and no faiths. “What happens when generations come together?”

It’s more magical than you might imagine.

When a child hugs an older adult, the world seems to stop for a moment. But intergenerational practice is about so much more than heartwarming moments like these.

It’s about:

1️⃣ Building meaningful connections across generations.
2️⃣ Tackling loneliness and isolation in older adults.
3️⃣ Creating life-changing learning experiences for children.
4️⃣ Building empathy, understanding, and a sense of community.

At Apples and Honey Nightingale, we see the transformative power of these relationships every day—and the smiles and hugs are just the beginning.

This picture captures a profound truth: bringing generations together doesn’t just benefit the individuals involved; it strengthens communities as a whole.

🌟 Become Intergenerational This Summer!🌟

This week it’s our week long immersive experience running from July 21-26, 2024, running at England’s first co-located nursery and care home. This unique event offers a deep dive into intergenerational practices, where children and older residents are coming together to create meaningful connections and shared joy.

Participating in this immersive intergenerational experience is crucial because it highlights the profound benefits that arise when different generations come together. Observing skilled practitioners and the relationships they nurture between young children and older residents demonstrates the powerful impact of intergenerational practices.

These interactions not only enhance learning and skill development for participants but also foster mutual respect, understanding, and emotional well-being across age groups. By supporting these connections, attendees gain valuable insights into the complexities of IG initiatives and the positive outcomes they generate, such as reduced loneliness among the older adults and enriched social development for children.

We will be posting the content this week to showcase some of the fantastic and impactful initiatives happening during this week long project - so follow us for regular updates! Nightingale Hammerson Apples and Honey at Nightingale

Wondering why we've been so quiet the last few days? 🤔 We've been busy hosting our UK partnership meeting with Generations Working Together (lead) and Apples and Honey at Nightingale 🤩 It was amazing to catch up on the fantastic work happening across the UK as part of this project and to discuss our exciting next steps!

As part of this exciting project LGNI are supporting settings and practitioners across NI to pilot and test new Quality Indicators for practice. Alongside LGNI intergenerational training NI pilot projects will be supported with training on how to use the indicators to self reflect and evaluate their intergenerational activities.

Through this project LGNI and our UK partners aim to support the development of locally driven Quality and Sustainable intergenerational activities! Check out our website to see what's been happening in NI as part this project and whose involved 👉 https://www.linkinggenerationsni.com/project/uk-creating-intergenerational-communities-project/

We strongly believe that this project, its approaches and resources will form the basis of the building of intergenerational excellence across the UK and an NI 🤩

🌟 Day 7 of : Let's Build Intergenerational Workplaces 🌟

As we wrap up this fantastic week, let's focus on building intergenerational workplaces where generations can grow together. Embracing intergenerational learning brings numerous benefits, including:

1. Diverse Perspectives: Different generations bring unique perspectives, experiences and skills to the table, fostering innovation and creativity within the workplace.

2. Knowledge Sharing: Older employees can pass down valuable wisdom and expertise to younger colleagues, while younger employees can offer fresh insights and technological know-how. 📖

3. Mentorship Opportunities: Intergenerational workplaces create opportunities for mentorship and professional development, promoting a culture of continuous learning and growth.

4. Enhanced Collaboration: By breaking down age barriers, intergenerational workplaces encourage collaboration and teamwork, leading to increased productivity and job satisfaction. 🤝🏼

Let's harness the power of intergenerational learning to create inclusive, dynamic workplaces where everyone can thrive.

Together, we can build a brighter future for generations to come! 💼💫

🌟 Day 3 of 🌟

Combatting loneliness through timeless connections.

In our care home, intergenerational bonds thrive as graduates return to visit, even with their own little siblings. These connections go beyond mere visits; they embody the essence of community, providing companionship and support across generations.

Intergenerational connections are key in fighting loneliness because they offer a sense of belonging and purpose. For older adults, interacting with younger generations brings vitality, combatting feelings of isolation.

Activities such as sharing news and poems not only foster creativity and communication but also create lasting memories and deepen relationships. Through these shared experiences, individuals of all ages find solace, laughter and understanding in each other's company.

As we celebrate Global Intergenerational Week, let's recognise the profound impact of these connections on combatting loneliness in our communities. 💕🌍
