We won’t achieve equality for women without fixing parental leave.
Women still take on more unpaid care and too often carry the financial and mental burden when a child is born, affecting their earnings, careers, well-being and financial security.
The Government’s Parental Leave Review ends this year.
Now is the time to act.
Fawcett and Movember have brought together campaigners, charities, academics and experts to call for change.
Better maternity and adoption pay, so women aren’t pushed into financial hardship when they take time to care.
Proper leave for fathers and second parents, so care can be shared more equally.
Fair support for self-employed women, so they aren’t penalised for taking time out to have and care for a baby.
Parental leave and pay from day one, whatever you earn and however you work.
And reform must reflect the reality of families today, including single parents, Black and Brown parents, kinship carers, adoptive parents, parents with a disabled child and parents facing serious illness.
