New maser in a 'shoebox' promises portable precision | Imperial News | Imperial College London 19/02/2024

🚨 New publication 🚨

Our researchers have developed a new portable that can fit the size of a shoebox.

Dr Wern Ng comments: "We have managed to shrink the maser to only 5 kilograms, with no cooling needed, no need for vacuum, and it is all solid state."

What sets this portable maser apart from previous designs is that the shoebox maser is the first portable room-temperature maser, operating close to the limit but small and light enough to be portable."

Masers have extensive applications in systems – everything from mobile phone networks to navigation systems 🚀📱🌍
