The next chapter of is all about looking closer. 🔬 This Friday, we continue the Royal School of Mines 175th anniversary celebrations, with Atoms in Action: The Past, Present and Future of In Situ Electron Microscopy event.

The workshop celebrates the history and future of in situ electron , looking back at its development at Imperial College London before exploring what is now possible when we watch respond and evolve in real time.

Bringing together leading researchers, RSM alumni and industry experts, we’ll look towards the future of dynamic electron microscopy, from new in situ approaches and automation to increasingly complex experiments.

Has the shipping industry given up on green ammonia too soon?
A recent Financial Times article explored why confidence in green ammonia is declining across the maritime sector. In response, Professor Stephen Skinner, from the Department of Materials at Imperial College London, argues that while today's challenges are real, they are not insurmountable.

In his published Financial Times letter, Professor Stephen Skinner explains why ammonia remains a promising low-carbon fuel for shipping, with the potential to support the transition towards cleaner maritime transport.

The event explored the many directions a Materials career can take, with honest reflections from speakers across academia, industry, entrepreneurship, venture capital and public service.

The 6th edition of Physical Metallurgy has been released 📘

This iconic textbook has shaped the teaching of materials science and metallurgy for decades, and we are incredibly proud to see our colleagues contributing to its latest edition.

A special congratulations to our Associate Professor Nima Haghdadi, for co-authoring a new chapter on the Physical Metallurgy of Additive Manufacturing. 🚀🧱

In partnership with Professor Sophie Primig (UNSW), Nima has contributed an insightful chapter exploring the physical metallurgy of metallic materials under the complex non-equilibrium and transient conditions encountered in additive manufacturing processes.

Congratulations to all the authors, editors, and contributors involved in bringing this new edition to life!
