✨Take the rest when you need it ✨

I’ve always found it relatively easy to push myself during a training session, mostly because throughout my career I was taught by my many coaches to always look to improve on the last session. Whilst this is a great mindset to have, especially when in a competitive environment it doesn’t take into account that in reality we can have off days, be affected by our home or working life, or have some unforeseen situation pop up. Taking it a little easier in a session or completely resting is absolutely fine and even beneficial to your body.
At times during a long season I remember being told to stay away from the training centre to give ourselves a mental break, which makes so much sense now.
Trying to maintain a high level of training for too long can lead to injury, burnout, and mental fatigue which only goes against you and the goals you’re trying to achieve.

My coaching journey has been a steep one with a lot of learning and piecing together advice I’ve received over the years but there’s one particular bit of advice that rings home for me thanks to

“Your best on any given day is enough”

Never a truer statement has been told.
Coaching is about getting the best out of your athletes but also understanding them, reading their body language, even putting an arm around them if that’s what they need in that moment.

There’s a time and place for the period of high intensity training.

Great alternative for a Bent Over DB Row as it forces the elbows back towards hips, taking the scapula through a fuller range of movement .

Going for a run today? Try some single leg lateral hops and exercises in your warm up. Remember a 2 sec land and stick is a successful hop anything less and you start again.
