This week 🥬 RAPUNZEL
Did you know that the lettuce in the tale that the man steals for his wife from the witches garden is called Rapunzel? So when the witch comes back to steal the baby it’s kinda a sick burn that she calls the baby Rapunzel. But then, she is a witch! We can’t expect her to be nice.

During our first couple of weeks of term we’ve been telling a story in two parts: Donkey Cabbages. It’s a lesser known Grimm Fairy Tale about a hunter who finds himself under the spell of a dastardly witch, on a mountain covered in gems, nearly eaten by giants, taking a ride on a cloud, trapped in a kitchen garden, eating magic cabbages, turning into a donkey, taking revenge against the witch, and eventually marrying the woman of his dreams and living happily ever after. We don’t like to do things by halves!
The Grimm Fairy Tales were meant to be told when the fire was low and the night was long, so they are perfect for this time of year 🪵🔥

THIS TERM 🌺 we’re straying off the well-worn path and into the magical corners of Grimm’s Fairy Tales — where stories bend, characters misbehave, and anything might happen.
With our trusted tools of improvisation, devised theatre and games games games, we’ll be reimagining the ancient tales to bring them to life in the 21st century. There will be invisibility capes, cabbages that turn you into who knows what (!), lessons on how to feel the ‘shivers’, talking fish, singing bones and a Golden Bird. To mention a few!
Come with us on a journey through children’s illustration over on instagram, as we celebrate the beautiful visuals - by artists such as Maurice Sendak, Wanda Gág and our personal favourite Arthur Rackham - that have accompanied the stories over time.
Let the adventures begin! 🧚
