Exploring university opportunities outside the UK 🎓

Last Thursday, our International University Advising team hosted our flagship Study in the US Evening with St Paul's School. The event brought together 36 universities from across the US and Europe 🇺🇸🇪🇺

Guests had the chance to:
💬 Meet university representatives from across the US and Europe
🎤 Hear from experts in breakout sessions on selective US admissions, studying in Europe, financial aid at US universities, and liberal arts and sciences in an AI-driven world
🌍 Discover the many pathways available

Saanya Gulati, Head of International University Advising at Latymer said: “This was the largest gathering of universities that we have hosted at Latymer. It was wonderful to bring so many universities and families together. We look forward to creating more opportunities for students to explore the range of options available to them beyond the UK.”

Caring for our community is a big part of what it means to be a Latymerian and one of our School Captains took this to new heights.

Christian (Y13) abseiled from the 17th Floor of The Royal London Hospital (home to Europe’s tallest helipad) to raise funds for London's Air Ambulance Charity.

He also organised a bake sale last Friday, with the proceeds going directly to the charity.

Two Latymerians took part in the National Youth Orchestra summer course this year culminating in a concert to a sold-out Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms 🎻🎵

Alyssa (Y12, flute and piccolo) and Samvid (Y10, violin) took part in a residential course led by the conductor and composer, Thomas Adès, before performing a programme of Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz No. 1, Adès’ Dante - Part 2 Purgatorio and Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique.

A Celebration of literature at Latymer Upper School with the Hannah Lynch Awards

Students, alumni, parents and staff gathered in the Main Hall last week for this special event. Hannah (class of 2024) was a young writer of incredible promise and wonderful spirit, who left behind a legacy of over 150 poems. This awards evening is held in her honour, with the awards presented a lasting tribute to Hannah’s life and passion for writing.

Awards were presented to winners across Junior, Intermediate and Senior categories, with the occasion an opportunity for the Latymer community to come together in remembrance, alongside recognition of our current students’ accomplishments.

Thanks go to our keynote speakers:
Maddie Mortimer (class of 2014): Booker Prize nominated author (for her spectacular debut, ‘Maps of Our Spectacular Bodies’, published aged 26.
Lily Kingdon-Dawkins (class of 2019): Lawyer at Linklaters, First in English from the University of Oxford.

In a significant moment for Latymer Upper School, our girls’ four and boys’ four were both selected to represent Great Britain against France over the summer. For the first time in the School’s history, both a boys’ and girls’ crew qualified at the same time. Congratulations to Bella, Emilie, Izzy, Sofie, Felix, Kaya, Luka and Orestis who took on the French national team and won their respective events.

There was more success over the holidays at the Home International Regatta, where Imogen and Elena earned selection for the England team. Both raced in the pair and the VIII against crews representing Wales, Ireland and Scotland. Home of UK Rowing 🤙

A little reminder of summer on a very rainy day… ☀️🌧️

Back in July, straight after the end of term, 17 sixth formers headed to the Lake District in glorious sunshine to complete their Gold DofE Qualifying Expedition.

With heavy bags, high temperatures and some challenging terrain, it was no easy feat — but they had a fantastic experience and made the most of the sunshine.

We’re definitely missing these conditions today. 🥾⛰️

TEDx Latymer Upper School on The Art of Change🎤

Our audience had the opportunity to hear from six incredible speakers →

🗣️ Hammersmith and Fulham’s Youth Voice Coordinator, Brenda Whinnett, shared her journey from feeling unheard as a young person to becoming dedicated to empowering the next generation.

🌊 Lisa Christensen is a pioneer in ocean conservation and shared her journey from the corporate world to founding Hong Kong Cleanup.

🐠 EarthShot Prize nominee, Jeremy McKane, spoke about the disconnect between the ecological value of our oceans and how they are recorded in global economic systems.

⚖️ Grant Wilson, Esq, took us through his vision for a system that acknowledges nature as an interconnected part of our world.

🏛️ Latymer’s very own Head of History, Jonathon White, explored the changing landscape of bereavement and our evolving connection to the spaces we leave behind.

🦷 Orthodontic Specialist, Dr Shivani Patel, discussed how a mouth can shape your future with her talk ‘the smile you don’t think about’.

A huge thank you to all the speakers for making TEDx at Latymer such an incredible evening, and to Sienna in Y11 for co-organising the event and helping bring everything together.

GCSE results day has arrived ✨

Our Year 11s should be so proud of their achievements. Hard work, dedication and determination, together with the support of staff and parents, have culminated in a fantastic set of results.

Latymer Upper School improved its results year-on-year, with 88% of all grades awarded at 8–9, including 64% at grade 9. 96% of grades were within 7-9, while an impressive 31 students achieved straight 9s!

Congratulations to everyone who has received their GCSE results today. Here’s to everything that comes next 🎉
