As the sun sets on this, the first day of 2026, I wish you a year (if not a lifetime) of colour, creativity and kindness - most especially for, and towards, yourself ❀️

Knitting update: This is the current state of Older Son's birthday jumper. Yes, it is still incomplete (at nearly two months past his birthday). Yes, it has "features". A classic WIP, you say - but then, so am I 😘

Main body row 25 is my favourite row. I know this 'cos I'm working it for the third time πŸ€ͺ

🀞🏻the fab light of the British Museum will help both my pattern reading and my knitting.

Oldest Son's jumper: Day 2
The pattern is a pleasing combination of slipped stitches and changing texture. The photo isn't doing the rib any justice, but the subtle slipping stitches with the yarn at the back of the work is complimented by the opposite in the main body.

No, I haven't measured it yet (Armhole = 43cm from cast on edge 🫣)

Oh happy day:
Tension correct βœ”οΈ
Yarn arrived (thank you, ) βœ”οΈ

And yes, : Of course it's πŸ’ž

So, casting-on 100 or so sts is totally the sensible thing to do at this time of night, when I've just got home from work πŸ€ͺ🀫

Yesterday, as I was sorting through some knitting magazines, I stumbled across one with a jumper pattern that Oldest Son liked.

On an unrelated note, his birthday is 3rd November.

Today, we're all about the blankets.
Blankets, as a tool for learning knitting skills (first photo); blankets to soothe the soul (second photo).

I have an acute case of castonitis - yet, I know, that after the initial dopamine hit of actually casting-on, the weight of another WIP is not the ideal tonic for my already unsettled mind. Plus, I need to swatch for a third time (sigh) for the next project I have lined up. And although I have the yarn wound, and the perfect swatch for a different project (my "emergency back up" from when we were away last year), I'm no longer confident that I can replicate the tension.

Bring on the soothing garter stitch πŸ’•

This is 's . Sure, it's been on the needles for (literally) years but tonight, it's my perfect knitting companion ❀️

This morning, , we have mainly been knitting.....

..... "Mainly", 'cos we've also been eating (scones and other delicious baking), drinking a whole variety of coffees (why have the same πŸ˜†) and putting the world a little bit to rights (which also involved expanding our vocabulary, and no, I'm not sharing those new definitions here 🀫 πŸ˜‰πŸ˜˜)

"The world needs more true connection and time spent with each other." Gauri Nanda

No truer words have been spoken ❀️

And, happily, this was the theme of my morning. On first glance, the second photo may look like just a plate of treats, but when each one was given by a different individual, it actually represents a tight circle of friends, old and new, present in person or thought πŸ₯°

Time, true connections, friendship; I am grateful for all πŸ’™

This morning, I've mainly been baking sheep.....

(then dropping sheep while taking photos πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ which meant sheep for breakfast )
