Another great way that we can. Each help the environment!
MAKE SURE YOU SAVE ALL OF YOUR CHOCOLATE TUBS THIS CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR!
Greene King pubs are running their Tub2Pub recycling campaign, and they’ll be taking them in from 1st January 2024. But things get even better - they’re also doing this to raise a heap of cash for Macmillan Cancer Support!
Tens of millions of these tubs are bought every year, so don't let yours go to waste. Find your nearest drop-off point at tub2pub.co.uk/tub2pub/
IMPORTANT: Please remember to remove all of your unwanted, abandoned, unloved Bounty bars from Celebrations tubs first before having them over. This will save Greene King a lot of time. Thank you.

Reception have enjoyed learning some new sounds in phonics over the last couple of weeks. They have started to learn their special friends - two letters that make one sound. They enjoy being teachers and teaching each other the sounds. The cold weather has given the children the opportunity to explore ice and they have been working out how to break the ice up to free the toys trapped below!
The children in France Class have been playing hairdressers and taking turns to do each other's hair. Jigsaws are also a current favourite in Reception. The children have been working together to fit the pieces together and enjoyed seeing what picture they have made.

This week in Singapore class we have been writing stories about witches. The children were encouraged to sequence their stories to ensure they made sense. We also looked at using a wider range of conjunctions to make our writing sound more interesting. These included because, so but and or.
We also looked at aerial maps of the Tower of London and the children created their own maps. Yassine and Autumn then made a Lego model of their map and labelled it.

The children were also lucky enough to have a session outside with Premier Sports this week where they got to play lots of games

Reception have had another busy week this week. They have been learning about Remembrance Day and why the poppy is important. They made poppies and put them onto a wreath. These are now hanging in the hall. They also learnt about why we celebrate with fireworks on Bonfire Night and explored fireworks in a variety of different ways. The children enjoyed making their own firework pictures.
The children also enjoy following their own interests during independent learning time, and in France Class this week the children have really loved making their own menus. As soon as one person made one, everyone wanted to!

A plea from our Year 2 Book Monitors…please look after our reading books! Many are being returned in such a bad condition that they cannot be used again. Just one book costs over £4 and with school budgets being so tight we cannot afford to keep replacing them. We know that sometimes accidents happen and can’t be avoided but please look after them when they are in your care.

On Friday morning India class enjoyed a lovely walk in the sunshine to Hylands park. They talked about the different types of trees and collected lots of leaves to bring back to school. They also looked for evergreen and deciduous trees. However, it is fair to say that the highlight of the trip was watching the park maintenance staff chopping branches from a large tree. The children watched from afar and were very impressed by the man who had climbed all the way to the top! A big thank you the parents/grandparents that came along to support the children.

The Reception children have settled in well again after the half term holiday. They have enjoyed using the giant polydron pieces to help turn themselves into robots. We have also had music on in the outdoor area with lots of budding performers singing along and playing instruments.

We are incredibly proud to have been awarded the TfL Travel For Life Gold award. This award recognises the outstanding efforts we have made in promoting safe, active and responsible travel in our school community. Thank you to everyone who has been involved, every small action makes a difference - if you have ditched the car in favour of walking or scooting to school, or maybe you have taken Cookie or Candy for a Weekend Walk, these things and many others have contributed to this achievement. A special shout out to last year's Travel Team for working with Mrs Leung on this last year, Squirrel Council can't wait to continue to build on their success this year.
