πŸ©ΊπŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ Occupations Week: Doctors & First Aid Helpers πŸ‘¨β€βš•οΈπŸ©Ή

As part of our theme of occupations and people who help us, the children created their very own paper doctor's bags before learning about a real first aid kit and the important items inside it.

The children then took turns helping to "treat" a pretend cut on their teacher's arm, carefully applying bandages and trying to stop the bleeding. They were fascinated to learn that first aid isn't only for doctors and paramedics – teachers need these skills too!

After watching a demonstration, the children eagerly continued their role play, bandaging one another and pretending to be doctors caring for their patients. It was a wonderful activity that combined learning, practical life skills, creativity, and lots of imaginative play.

Well done to our little doctors! 🩹❀️

🌱 Little Gardeners at Work! 🌱

Today the children became gardeners and helped plant beautiful flowers. They took turns filling pots with soil, carefully placing the plants inside, topping them up with more soil, and giving them a drink of water.

Through this hands-on activity, the children learned what plants need to grow, including soil, water, air, and sunlight, while also exploring the role of a gardener. Gardening helps children develop an understanding of the natural world, encourages care for the environment, and introduces them to different occupations.

The activity also supported important social skills such as following instructions, sharing resources, and waiting patiently for a turn. A wonderful outdoor learning experience enjoyed by all! 🌼🌿

πŸŒ‹πŸŠ Citrus Fruit Volcanoes! πŸ‹πŸˆ

Following the children's growing interest in volcanoes, we explored a fun science experiment using oranges, lemons and limes to create our very own fruit volcanoes!

The children tasted the different citrus fruits, learning about their sour and sweet flavours, before following step-by-step instructions to prepare their fruit. They practised their fine motor skills by mixing, squeezing and adding ingredients, then watched in excitement as the bicarbonate of soda reacted with the fruit's natural acids to create bubbling mini volcanoes.

The children observed that the lime produced the biggest reaction, while the orange produced the smallest. Throughout the activity they developed concentration, listening skills, scientific understanding, new vocabulary and fine motor control, all while having lots of fun.

A fantastic hands-on learning experience that had everyone asking to do it again!

🌱 Gardening 🌱

At Happy Hands Montessori Nursery, gardening forms an important part of our learning experiences. Through planting seeds, caring for growing plants, and exploring the natural world, children develop a deeper understanding of how living things grow and thrive.

Using child-friendly gardening tools, the children learn how to prepare soil, plant seeds, water regularly, and observe changes over time. These activities encourage patience, responsibility, and an appreciation for the care that plants need to flourish.

Gardening also provides opportunities to explore life cycles, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. Children learn about composting, conserving water, and the important role that nature plays in our everyday lives.

By getting their hands dirty and spending time outdoors, the children build confidence, develop practical skills, and foster a lasting connection with the natural world.

For Earth Day in April, the children at our Brondesbury Park Nursery explored a wonderful tuff tray based around land, sea, animals and recycling πŸŒβ™»οΈ

The tray showed how we can care for our planet by keeping our oceans and land clean and protecting the animals that live there. The children talked about why we should not throw rubbish on the ground or into the sea and learned how litter can affect sea creatures and wildlife.

They then sorted different pieces of rubbish into the correct recycling bins, carefully identifying paper, plastic and tins. This was a fantastic hands-on activity to encourage environmental awareness, recycling skills and caring for the world around us πŸ’™πŸŒ±

πŸ”’ Ordering Numbers 1–10 πŸ”’

The children at our Brondesbury Park Nursery enjoyed recognising, finding and ordering numbers from 1–10. The adult mixed the numbers up and the children had to spot the mistakes and correct them. They took turns and helped each other throughout the activity. 😊

The children were especially puzzled when the numbers were placed in order from 10–1! After some discussion, one child laughed and said, β€œYou’re silly. 1 should be there!” πŸ˜‚

The children then created their own mixed-up number lines for their friends to solve. A fun activity full of teamwork, problem-solving and number recognition!

Next step… the whole alphabet!! πŸ˜‰

πŸ’™πŸ§Έ Crackerjacks Charity Pyjama Day! πŸ§ΈπŸ’™

On Thursday 30th April, the children came into the nursery wearing their pyjamas and made donations towards the wonderful charity, Crackerjacks Children’s Trust.

During the day, we spoke together about why we were wearing pyjamas and what our donations were helping towards. The children enjoyed learning that Crackerjacks is a children’s charity committed to helping and supporting children and their families across the United Kingdom who suffer from a disability.

We are incredibly proud to share that, with the support of our families and staff, we raised an amazing Β£68.40 for the charity! πŸŽ‰

A huge thank you to everyone who donated and helped support such a meaningful cause. πŸ’–

🌍 Earth Day 2026 – Fine Motor Fun ♻️

Last month the children at our Brondesbury Park Nursery took part in a wonderful Earth Day fine motor skills activity using tongs to pick up recyclable plastic bottle lids that we had been collecting to re-use for various activities. They carefully placed the lids into the circle spaces on the picture of planet Earth. 🌎

This activity encouraged the children to focus their attention, concentrate, and strengthen their hand muscles while developing important fine motor skills.

At the same time, we discussed how re-using plastic lids is another form of recycling that helps care for and protect our planet. β™»οΈπŸ’š

Learning through play while helping the Earth makes for a meaningful and fun day!

🌍 Earth Day 2026 🌍

On April 22, the children at our Brondesbury Park Nursery took part in celebrating Earth Day by proudly showing off the wonderful home activities they completed with their families. πŸ’š

Every Friday, we send home a book to read together with parent(s) as well as a fun home activity. This week, the children worked with their families to create β€œhappy” and β€œsad” planet posters. The children absolutely loved sharing their creations with the adults and their friends at nursery! They told us who helped them - mummy, daddy, and even older siblings - and explained why their planets were happy or sad before proudly posing for photos with their work. 😊🌎😒🌍

We will now be combining all of the amazing creations into one giant poster to display outside for the world to see!

This activity was a fantastic way to encourage quality time and conversations between parents and children, while also strengthening our wonderful parent partnership and keeping families involved in what the children are learning at nursery.

The activity covered several important areas of learning, including:
✨ Understanding the World
✨ Communication and Language
✨ Personal, Social and Emotional Development

The children enjoyed listening to one another, showing interest in their friends’ work, and patiently waiting for their turn to share. Our parents thoroughly enjoyed taking part and cannot wait to see the final giant poster displayed on the nursery fence for everyone to admire.

We love our parent partnership! πŸ’šπŸŒ
