Hi Families,
With the heat wave upon us, we at PACE just wanted to remind you that when swimming please be aware of the Float to Live advice from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI)
5 steps to float :
Tilt your head back - submerge your ears so that your mouth and nose are above the water
Relax and breath - calm your breathing and fight the urge to thrash or swim
Spread your limbs - open your arms and legs out for stability
Don’t worry about sinking legs - it is normal for legs to sink because everyone floats differently
Call for help - once calm and breathing steady, swim to safety or call 999 for the coast guard.
5 steps when seeing someone else struggling:
Call 999 and ask for the coast guard immediately
Tell them to float - shout to the person to lean back and stay calm
Throw floatable objects - look for a buoy, ball, water bottle or something else for them to for support.
