Thrilled to share that following our earlier announcement of being shortlisted for the prestigious Independent Schools of the Year 2024 awards, we’ve been selected as a finalist for the Student Well-Being category.
This reflects the incredible commitment of our staff and children towards creating a culture of well-being in our school community. From our annual well-being survey, tutor and buddy systems, to our proactive initiatives in listening to children, Broomwood prioritises the mental and emotional health of everyone here.
Student Well-Being is at the heart of all we do at Broomwood, so we are very proud that this has been officially recognised.
Congratulations to the Broomwood community, and best of luck to all the other amazing schools that have made it to the finals. 🎉
Keep everything crossed for the overall winner to be announced at an awards ceremony in October.

Welcome Michael Hodge! We are thrilled to announce that Michael Hodge is the new Principal of Broomwood and Head of Broomwood Prep-Boys. With his passion for education and commitment to providing a nurturing environment for children at Broomwood we are so delighted to have him on board!
Our Buddy Program is a year-round initiative that ensures our youngest pupils feel supported and welcomed as they join Broomwood Prep-Girls, whether they’re coming from or other schools.
Last term, our Year 8 students wrote letters to introduce themselves to their younger buddies, and in the final weeks of summer, they met in person to answer questions and ease any concerns.
Today, just before the start of the new school year, our buddies reunited! They shared holiday stories, chatted about their excitement and nerves, and had some fun exploring the playground together. We’re thrilled that our Year 3 and 4 pupils have older buddies to look up to as they settle into their new school environment. And we couldn’t be prouder of our Year 8 students, who are already shining as role models and thriving in their leadership roles at the top of the school.
We are so excited to welcome everyone back to school tomorrow!
Wonderful interview with Mrs McCafferty. It’s great to see our school’s vision being highlighted! As we gear up to return next week, we’re excited to continue bringing this vision to life. Hopefully, we can welcome you for a visit soon!😊

Exciting news! Ellie Aldridge, sister of PE teacher Miss Holly Aldridge, who visited Broomwood in May, has just made history by winning the first-ever Olympic gold medal in women’s kiteboarding! 🥇🎉 Congratulations, Ellie!
When asked earlier this year by one of our pupils if you had won a medal, your response was, “I haven’t got an Olympic medal YET!” You’ve beautifully embodied our Broomwood ‘Yeti’ Power, where children learn they might not be able to do something … ‘yet’.
The entire Broomwood community is bursting with pride and joy for you, Ellie! We can’t wait to welcome you back to Broomwood, this time with your gold medal!
In the last week of term we celebrated our Leavers’ achievements at our Prize Giving Service. The girls’ were also treated to an inspirational talk by Head Cathy Ellott and we thank her hugely.
We wish our leavers’ ‘Bon Voyage’ for their future adventures and successes and also to everyone else who might be escaping on a holiday this summer.
We are delighted and proud to be shortlisted for the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2024, in the category of Student Well-being. To be recognised from more than 1000 nominations is an honour and reflects the forward-thinking teaching and pastoral care at Broomwood.
Staff were praised for embarking on a pupil well-being survey, listening to children, and shaping their pastoral care accordingly, whilst also stretching pupil’s learning.
The final results of the ISOTY Awards 2024 will be announced at an award ceremony in October.
It is a fabulous end to a fantastic year, where we also celebrated winning the Private Schools Award 2024; receiving a Highly Commended award in the Passionate About Sport category from Muddy Stilettos and being finalists in this year’s Education Choices Awards.
We look forward to continuing our path of improvements and excellence in the coming year. Congratulations to all for a remarkable year!

Boys and girls from across Broomwood have been celebrating our win at the Private Education Awards, 2024.
We are proud that Broomwood was singled out for its inclusive approach to learning and pastoral care at all stages. The judges were impressed with our thematic learning in Pre-Prep, where each child has the opportunity to explore topics using different learning styles, ensuring that everyone can access the material in a way that suits them best. Staff were also praised for embarking on a pupil wellbeing survey, listening to children, and shaping their pastoral care accordingly, whilst also stretching pupil learning to achieve 11+ and 13+ scholarships at schools such as Brighton College, Wi******er, Woldingham and Dulwich. The breadth of our offering was demonstrated by the 42 scholarships awarded to competitive senior schools across a range of disciplines including academic, drama, music, art and sport.

Year 6 performed their modernised versions of to family, who gathered in our garden to enjoy a picnic and drinks.
A lovely way to end a wonderful year.
What a gorgeous group of girls our Year 8 leavers are. They have been so successful academically yet more importantly they have been kind, brave, energetic, resilient and superb role models for the rest of the school.
We wish them every success and happiness at their future senior schools and know they will thrive.
Our Year 4 scientists dissected owl pellets and were then tasked with identifying what small mammals had been eaten. They were amazed to find lower jaw bones, shoulder plates and thighs of voles, a common shrew and even a rat. Most of the jaws had the teeth in place and when removed the tooth roof pattern was revealed.
Thrilled to have been Highly Commended Muddy Stilettos Awards 2024, for our approach to sport.
Using occupational therapy techniques, we’ve developed a ‘core strength’ programme for our youngest children to promote confidence, fine and gross motor skills. Higher up the school we’ve introduced core fitness training, so that even those who don’t see themselves as ‘naturals’ can achieve more than they thought possible. PE isn’t regarded as a standalone lesson but is very much part of the curriculum – inclusive and fun! And our results are outstanding, we enjoy successes in tournaments and competitions across a wide range of sports as well as pupils achieving many sports scholarships and awards at 11/13+
The Year 8 leavers’ disco did not disappoint!
The Broomwood Prep - Boys hall was transformed into a disco wonderland for the night 🪩
Massive thanks to Broomwood Parents Association for organising.
We had an amazing time at our second Year 7 cookery evening! It was a fantastic final test for the girls, wrapping up their year-long cookery course. We’re thrilled to announce that everyone passed with flying colours, and parents enjoyed a delicious three course meal prepared and served by the students! 🍴
We are delighted that Broomwood is a Finalist in the Education Choices Awards, 2024.

The Green Team got busy planting herbs in our new playground planters this week. As part of sustainability week and to celebrate Broomwood Girls have been considering what we can do to be more sustainable. One idea from our school council was to grow herbs and vegetables on site that could be used to help create our wonderful school lunches.
The planters were kindly given to the school by last year’s Year 8 leavers.
The Green Team will be coming up with more initiatives in the future and we look forward to seeing all the changes to come!
Today our Academic Scholars went on an inspiring art excursion to Saatchi Gallery ‘Beyond Fashion’, followed by a spray painting graffiti street art workshop at Leake Street Art.
“Great teaching, wonderful leadership’ Broomwood Girls gets top marks in parent survey.
We’re delighted to hear such positive feedback from our families who emphasised how happy and confident children are at school.
Pastoral care is a strength, with nearly 100% also praising the school for effective safeguarding.
The positive feedback is reflected in the strong performance of our boys and girls at both prep schools. They’ve been awarded 42 scholarships to competitive senior schools. Over half of these were in recognition of academic performance and the rest were for Sport, Music, Drama and Art.
We were so lucky to have Lollie McKenzie visit us for a workshop. She played Matilda in the West End and it is still her photograph on all official Matilda merchandise! Along with choreographer Melody, her Harvard roommate, who has also appeared on Canada’s Got Talent and The Next Step, the Broomwood girls and boys learnt a short section from ‘Revolting Children.’
Year 5 have been learning the correct techniques for working with masks and realised it’s quite difficult! You need very exaggerated and slow physicality to make yourself understood by the audience, when not being able to rely on speech or facial expressions!
It has also been a lot of fun 🤩 👺🎭
Year 4 Broomwood Prep - Boys Broomwood Prep - Girls have had the BEST residential trip in Hertfordshire. Sad to be leaving today, but taking with us memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.
Thank you for all our adventures!
It was a battle between Broomwood Prep - Girls and Broomwood Prep - Boys in the Year 7 Debate. Some very eloquent arguments took place on the topics of: ‘Should all children over 10 have cell phones?’; ‘ Should sport be compulsory in school?’; ‘Should AI replace teachers?’ 💭

Tutor time today: reading in the sunshine☀️
Every child at Broomwood Prep has a tutor, who they choose themselves. Their tutors job is to champion their achievements, as well as guide and support them towards achieving their goals. Often, this means focusing on reading, on celebrating the reading the girls have done and sharing the learning from that reading. As well as obvious learning benefits, reading is an excellent tool for escape, for coping with difficult things and regulating emotions.
We love to celebrate and encourage reading of all kinds 🌟📚

Well done to all our Science Prefects who proved to be excellent teachers to years 2 & 3 this morning as part of and their transition to Broomwood Girls in September. The pupils had demonstrations with exploding jelly babies, chip pan fires and a launching rocket! 🚀
