Celebrating International Cava Day!

Summer is about sharing bubbles with friends. And there is one bottle that we think deserves a lot more attention than it usually gets.

If someone handed you a glass of Cava without telling you what it was, you might be surprised. Fine persistent bubbles. Fresh citrus and green apple on the nose. A gentle biscuity richness if it has had some age on it. It is made in the same way as Champagne, with a second fermentation happening in the bottle rather than a tank, and that process is a big part of what gives it such a lovely character.

So why is it not Champagne? The difference is where it comes from and what it is made from. Cava is rooted in Catalonia, Spain, built around indigenous grapes grown in that landscape for generations. Macabeo brings the freshness, Xarel·lo adds body and texture, and Parellada keeps it lifted and aromatic.

Today is International Cava Day and we want to know, do you drink it regularly or is it one you keep meaning to explore more? If it is not something you typically reach for, why not?

Tell us in the comments. And if you are opening a bottle tonight, we are a little bit jealous.
