The Association for Music in International Schools

The Association for Music in International Schools AMIS is dedicated to the promotion of excellence in music education in international schools.

AMIS offers exceptional musical experiences for students in international schools, promoting excellence and building global friendships. We provide a supportive professional network for music students and educators worldwide through festivals, workshops, and conferences. Central to our mission is a deep commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging (DEIJB). We actively work to

ensure our values are reflected in our diverse repertoire, our selection of guest conductors, and our professional development opportunities, creating a space where all voices can flourish.

AMIS remembers the incredibly talented educator, Roger Sams. For decades, Roger served the AMIS family and the wider music education community through his innovative pedagogy, focus on inclusive, holistic learning, and deep care for students and teachers. His 30+ years in the classroom, alongside extensive professional development and guest teaching experiences, had a profound impact on so many. Roger traveled to AMIS schools, presented at conferences, and provided accessible, relevant online learning. His most recent work as an AMIS consultant was a testament to this commitment.

Through his work with Soulwerk Sanctuary, he helped merge student education with educators’ own personal growth, reflection, and awareness. Above all, Roger is remembered for his joy, his kindness, and his dedication to helping teachers connect with their students and with themselves. As one AMIS teacher beautifully stated, he will be remembered for “his calmness and confidence and actively giving us permission to just be the beacon model of self-care for the school.” His legacy will continue to inspire and guide us.
