Indian Ladies in UK is a closed facebook group with almost 35000 members. Mr Modi has truly united Indians of all hues and nowhere more so than here in the UK.

It is a forum that brings together women of myriad castes, creeds, industries and ethnicities from all across India to share and celebrate our Indian identity here in the UK. That sense of community has only been enhanced since the election of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2014. As you may be well aware, the millions of NRI’s settled around the world share India’s sense of optimism and hope that Mr Modi’s election brought about. Therefore it is unsurprising that the Indian community in the UK – arguably the most important ethnic minority in Britain – is delighted to have the opportunity to welcome Mr Modi to the UK. As a symbol of that unity of purpose us 'Indian Ladies' have started a unique project to welcome Mr Modi to the UK, representing our unity as well as our gender, which is especially pertinent given Mr Modi’s stance on the issue of Female Empowerment. It is a stance that has given much hope and confidence to us Indian women, wherever we are in the world. As part of this symbolic project we are creating a large scale blanket/Tapestry to be presented to Mr. Modi , made up of thousands of crocheted squares created by Indian women across the UK in their own individual styles. The squares represent our individuality as Indians whilst the end product represents our Unity in Diversity. Through this initiative I plan to raise some of the issues that are close to our hearts particularly as immigrant Indian women:

1) Asking the Indian govt to better engage with the Diaspora Indian community where by setting up FREE cultural centres for our children so that Indian traditions and culture can be passed on from generation to generation. As a community organization we are already running classes for kids but it would be good for our children to follow a curriculum and for this to become accessible to every Indian child.

2) To have help and support for immigrant women who are married to men here and become destitute or victims of domestic abuse. Mostly the only option that's left for them is to either suffer in silence or leave for India and keep fighting for years to get justice. Perhaps a handbook can be introduced to be given to every Indian women who leaves India on a long term visa abroad with information about their rights in the foreign country and who to contact in case of an emergency.

3) For a safer India for us women as we would like to take up the offer of Mr. Modi's 'Make In India' campaign and return back to our country.

Do you think this girl was wearing inappropriate clothes to go in front of a govt Minister?

A female MP is allowed to enter Parliament wearing a sleeveless blouse, but a college student was stopped by an official from welcoming the chief guest minister just because she was wearing a sleeveless kurti.

The dress code was Indian attire, and she was dressed in a white suit with a blue dupatta. It was not mentioned that sleeveless is not allowed.

Family courts are “not good enough” and have treated women and children unfairly for decades, a government minister has said.

Announcing a major overhaul of the family justice system in England and Wales that will play a central role in “rebalancing” the family courts, Alison Levitt said often brutal legal showdowns will be replaced with a “problem-solving”, child-focused model.

Part of a move across the Ministry of Justice to tackle court backlogs, the department said child focused courts – which centre on child welfare and seeks out-of-court resolutions – have reduced child trauma, cut a backlog of cases and reduced waiting times.
