You might have noticed that in lots of my posts I add coaching questions.
These are to encourage you to think about the topic or think about yourself in relation to the topic - perhaps you'll have a little ah-ha moment, or it'll help you do something or make a decision.
The questions I ask are open questions; they are not closed questions that result in a yes or no answer.
While closed questions can sometimes have their place, open questions allow for more exploring. For example:
❌️ Closed:
Are you happy with how you're spending your time?
✔️ Open:
How do you feel about how you're spending your time?
The open question gives you more room to think. It doesn't tell you what the answer should be. It doesn't lead you towards a particular response. It gives you the space to explore what is actually true for you. And that's one thing a good coach does.
So, next time you're stuck on something, try asking yourself an open question and perhaps you'll have your own little ah-ha moment.
