This Graduation, we were delighted to launch a new initiative to celebrate and connect with SOAS scholarship recipients as they become alumni. πŸŒπŸŽ“

Across three days and eight ceremonies, we met more than 40 graduating scholars, hearing about their SOAS experiences, what they’re doing next and the difference their scholarships have made.

Our scholars also shared messages with the donors and funders who supported them, captured some fantastic graduation moments, and recorded words of welcome and advice for the new scholarship recipients joining SOAS this autumn.

πŸ’¬ "The support I received through the scholarship changed my life. It gave me the opportunity to study at SOAS. Everyone was so supportive and the environment is very multicultural.”
Sumeth Sareewong (MA History of Art and Archaeology), Alphawood Foundation Scholarship recipient 2024-25

It’s all part of our work to build a stronger SOAS Scholarship community – connecting scholars across cohorts and helping those relationships continue long after graduation.

A huge congratulations to all our graduating scholars!

πŸ’¬ β€œWhat SOAS gave me was never just academic knowledge. It was also community, a way of thinking, friendships, questions that refused easy answers, and memories that will continue to travel with me!" β€” Aderonke Ige (MSc Global Development, 2025)

πŸŽ“ Graduation Week 2026 starts tomorrow!

A huge thank you to all the alumni who contributed to our Graduation Memories Series and shared their SOAS stories with us.

Your London Alumni Network invite you to a special alumni event in London: Human Rights in Action: A Conversation with SOAS Alumni

Many SOAS graduates are driven by a passion for human rights and pursue careers in diplomacy, international organisations, advocacy and the NGO sector to help shape a more just world.

At a time when human rights are under increasing pressure around the world, three distinguished alumni will explore the challenges facing the human rights community today, how it can remain a force for positive change and what gives reason for hope. Our speakers will also share candid reflections on their own careers, lessons learned and practical advice for those interested in working in the field.

Our panellists include:
πŸ”ΉJane Kinninmont, CEO, United Nations Association - UK
πŸ”ΉMike Davis, CEO, Green Alliance and former CEO, Global Witness
πŸ”ΉRasha Abdul Rahim, Senior Director, Own the Space and former Director, Amnesty Tech

The discussion will be followed by a drinks reception, providing an opportunity to continue connect with fellow alumni and panellists.

πŸ“… Thursday 1 October, 7 - 10pm

"SOAS, through its expertise, the languages I've studied here, the colleagues I've met and the research I've done, will support all of my goals. It's made many of the things I hope to achieve in the future possible.”

Our Scholar Spotlight this month is Nolan Musslewhite (MA African Studies), a Marshall Scholar who chose SOAS for its world-class expertise on Africa. He is learning Swahili and undertaking research into the impact of Gulf investments in African energy and mining projects.
