Over the past term, we worked closely with a small number of Early Years settings to explore how our webinar series, Watch, Wait, Communicate (WWC), supports communication-friendly practice.

This focused pilot gave practitioners dedicated time to reflect on everyday interactions, using short webinars, practical strategies, and video self-reflection.

Practitioners told us this helped them:
✔️ Spot small changes they could make straight away
✔️ Build confidence supporting children’s communication
✔️ Embed practical strategies into daily routines

And the real impact is on the children, more confident communication, stronger relationships, and everyday interactions that truly support their development.

Over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing reflections and ideas from our pilot, stay tuned!

🧩 Myth vs Fact

Myth: “Children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) only make progress through individual intervention.”

Fact: A communication-friendly environment, from classroom layout and visual supports to sensory strategies and whole-school routines, can make a huge difference before any intervention even begins.

We’ve been busy transforming our Environment Checklist to give schools and settings clearer insights, stronger tools and even more confidence in shaping communication-friendly environments.

👋 Meet Shantelle!
With 12 years’ experience as a SaLT supporting children and young people across primary, secondary and FE, plus leading therapy teams across secondary and post-16, Shantelle brings a wealth of expertise.
She’ll be helping us ensure Verbo reaches the children and young people who can benefit most.
In her spare time, she loves music, live performances and yoga 🎶

👋 Meet Alice!
Alice joins us with 4 years’ experience as a SaLT working across mainstream and care-experienced settings, with a particular focus on SEMH. She brings a holistic, equity-driven approach to her work.
She’ll be supporting settings to embed Verbo into day-to-day practice and helping shape the support we offer our growing community.
Fun fact: she was a Centre Court Wimbledon Ball Girl! 🎾
