Knife crime has a devastating effect on the communities it impacts. And never has this been more clear than what’s happened so far in Bristol in 2024.

Over just 18 days at the end of January and the start of February, three teenagers in the city had lost their lives.

Mason Rist, 15, and Max Dixon, 16, died after being attacked in Knowle West on January 27. Darrian Williams,16, was attacked in Rawnsley Park in Easton on February 14 and later died.

There have been other incidents and all this comes after 2023, a year in which there was an incident involving a knife on average more than once a week.

The Knife Angel is coming to Weston-super-Mare for a month. The artwork, created out of more than 100,000 confiscated knives and blades, aims to raise awareness of the effects of violence and aggression.

Designed by artist Alfie Bradley at the British Ironwork Centre, the striking artwork will go on display at the town’s Italian Gardens from Wednesday, May 1 until Thursday, May 30. The 27 ft tall statue, created from 100,000 knives and blades confiscated by the UK’s 43 police forces, is visiting the seaside town as part of a nationwide tour highlighting the issue of violent crime.

Throughout this period, The North Somerset Violence Reduction Partnership will be creating a month-long programme throughout the Knife Angel’s time in North Somerset. This will include activities themed around violent crime, including educational workshops, art installations and community competitions.

Busting the myths around knife crime 💡
