The Lighthouse Education Service (LES) serves the community, in particular vulnerable and disadvanta We will be delighted to give you a guided tour.
Lighthouse Saturday School
The Lighthouse Saturday School (LSS) provides supplementary education for children aged 15 to 16 years who require support with core subjects, such as Mathematics, English. Small classes and tuition delivered by qualified teachers, help learners to excel in GCSE’s and examinations. LSS also prepare learners for grammar and private school entry examinations. Our main obj
ective is to provide a friendly, disciplined environment where students can learn from teachers and each other. LSS was formed in 1991 and formally amalgamated into LES in 1993. Building good foundations early in life help provide learners with a springboard, for later success. We therefore deliver a curriculum that challenges both the creative and logical elements of the brain. Curriculum and Assessments
All new learners undergo compulsory formal assessments when they enrol. This allows their level of understanding to be assessed and personal learning plans defined. Further assessments are routinely conducted, using prescribed assessment papers. Our Promise
Lessons will be delivered in spacious classrooms
We go the extra mile to ensure your child is adequately prepared their GCSE’s and/or school entry examination

JANE KANE NURSERY
Situated in Vauxhall, James Kane Nursery is a Christian Day Nursery (Est. 1994) with charitable status, caring for children aged 6 months to 5 years old. We are a multicultural nursery that offers a fun, loving and caring environment for children, enabling the holistic development of every child. The welfare and needs of your child is at the heart of our planning, their requirements are paramount. Every child is dealt with as an individual, and is allocated a key worker who plans the key stages of their developmental learning. We aim to develop your child’s language skills, numeracy and reasoning through art, drama, music and movement. We encourage creativity and imagination, which often result in treasured paintings and artwork. Early reading, writing, mathematics, science and technology are all part of our daily routine. Your child will even have access to computers at an early age. Valuing Play
Pre-school children learn best through first-hand experience. Our carefully selected resources enable your child to experiment, explore and grow in understanding. We encourage purposeful play as it is an important learning tool during the early years. Our nursery is a well equipped, secure building with a garden play area. Whilst your child is with us, we will focus on the following development areas:
• Decision Making
• Personal social and emotional development
• Communication - language and literacy
• Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
• Knowledge and understanding of the world
• Creative development
• Physical development

Trips and events
Every year we invite parents to join the children on organised trips, so they can develop stronger relationships with the staff and other parents in a relaxed environment. We feel these educational trips provide a stimulus, which helps to increase the children’s general knowledge and learning. Safety
Safeguarding your child is our top priority, because each child is special. To ensure security we have a high staff to child ratio, this ensures close supervision can be maintained at all times. A trained first aider is also on hand to deal with any medical emergencies. All staff undergo a Criminal Record Bureau check, to ensure they are safe to work with the children. CCTV monitor the premises and a video door-entry control system ensure unauthorised individuals cannot gain access. Happy children
Happy children are confident learners, particularly when they feel safe and loved. We encourage our children at an early age to develop their mobility, dexterity and speech skills through exploration. In our nursery we employ qualified nursery nurses and assistants, who understand that encouragement, praise and support have a positive influence on a child’s self esteem. We select our staff not only on the basis of their qualifications and experience, but also on their ability to work and gain the confidence of young children. All our staff are trained to recognise and respect the individual needs of each child. Regulatory controls
The nursery is registered and inspected by Ofsted. It conforms to all relevant legislation and has met and exceeded many of the requirements of the Children Act 1989 and the Every Child Matters Agenda. The fully inclusive service provides each child with meals, snacks, milk and even nappies. Parents who wish to study, or work flexible hours can apply for subsidised nursery places. Opening Hours

HOME WORK CLUB
The Homework Club is an after school club designed to raise educational standards among children aged 5 to 11 years. Staff, who have undergone Criminal Records Bureau checks, assist the children with homework completion, literacy, numeracy and ICT, as well as sports. The Homework Club works in partnership with local schools, addressing the individual subject needs of each child, in order to reinforce classroom teaching. Access to computers also helps to bridge the ICT divide that is often experienced by poorer families. The Homework Club supports the government’s objectives to raise academic and self-esteem levels of young people. Children are collected from schools, and safely transported to the Club. Children are served refreshments during the afternoon. Extra activities
The Homework club also plan annual trips to places of interest. Past excursions have included visits to various cultural centres, a narrow boat journey on the Grand Union Canal, a weekend sleep-over at the Science Museum and presentations at community festivals and shows. Parents are often invited to accompany their children, in order to develop closer relationships with the staff, children and other parents.
