Nearly all of my students come to me through recommendations from past students, parents and clients.

As a small independent business, word-of-mouth referrals are incredibly important, and I’m always grateful when people take the time to leave a review.

I’m delighted to continue receiving 5-star feedback and to know that the support and guidance I provide is making a positive difference.

Here are a few recent reviews I’ve received (and a good excuse to practise using Edits to create content!).

This is such a bugbear of mine (as many students and friends alike will attest to).

Using “I was sat outside” (I am stood...) is generally grammatically incorrect.

You really should be saying “I was sitting” or I was standing - here’s why:

It is the misuse of the passive voice: The phrase “I was sat” implies that someone else sat you down (a passive action), rather than you sitting yourself down (an active, continuous action). It suggests you were acted upon, like “I was served” or “I was instructed”.

The past tense vs. present participle: “Sat” is the past tense of sit, whereas “sitting” is the present participle (representing an ongoing action). “I was sitting” correctly describes a continuous state in the past.

Even tutors need a break ✈️

A last minute dash to Mallorca was exactly what I needed before we head into the final term of the academic year.

Rested, recharged and ready to help my students finish strong 💪

I specialise in preparing students for selective school entrance exams, including the 7+, 8+, 9+, 10+, and 11+.

I help guide parents on choosing the right secondary schools, based on their child’s strengths and goals.

Each session is personalised to help students build confidence, improve performance, and approach exams with clarity and assurance.

Much of my teaching is delivered online allowing for interactive, engaging, and highly effective lessons.

For in-person support, I have a dedicated outdoor studio for face-to-face lessons and consultancy, providing a calm and focused learning environment.

Each session is personalised to help students build confidence, improve performance, and approach exams with clarity and assurance.

Although these assessments are often described as “tutor-proof,” the underlying skills remain consistent.

📍As a tutor and 11+ specialist, I often spend a significant amount of time preparing resources and lessons for my students.

👩🏻‍🏫I am a qualified teacher with over 20 years of classroom experience so I know how to deliver content effectively.

📝However, what often takes the most time is tailoring that learning to the individual student.

Understanding how each child thinks, the pedagogy behind their learning, and adapting my approach to suit them is a crucial part of the preparation process.

💡💡When everything aligns and a student has that all-important “lightbulb moment”, it’s incredibly rewarding and one of the best parts of the job.

🚫No, I don’t sit around all day waiting for my students. I prepare. I learn and I drink a lot of ☕️

Making the right choice when selecting a tutor is incredibly important, and there are a few key questions worth asking before making your decision.

Working with a qualified teacher can make a significant difference. Teachers are trained not only in their subject areas but also in how to explain concepts in a range of ways, helping children understand the curriculum clearly and build confidence in their learning.

It is worth asking whether a tutor can share reviews or connect you with past or current clients. The majority of my work comes through word of mouth, which is always hugely appreciated. It reflects the trust families place in me and the results their children achieve.

If you begin working with a tutor from around late Year 4 or early Year 5, you will likely be in regular contact with them. Because of this, it’s important that you feel comfortable communicating with your tutor—and even more importantly, that your child does too. A positive relationship helps children feel relaxed, engaged in their lessons and able to develop both academically and in their communication skills with someone they trust.

Finally, it’s important to think about your child’s overall schedule. Many children already balance schoolwork with a range of extracurricular activities, and it’s important not to overload them. A thoughtful balance will always lead to a more positive and productive experience for everyone.
