A huge thank you to all our wonderful guests and alumni for joining us in celebrating May Day 2026!
We hope you all have a fantastic year ahead. Keep an eye out for the amazing photographs we’ll be sharing in the coming weeks. A special thank you to everyone for your wonderful well-wishes and for bringing together that incredible community spirit that seemed to invite all that lovely weather. And of course, congratulations to our Queen Hannah on finishing her year, and to Queen Keira as she steps into her role as May Queen of Whitelands College for 2026/27!!!

The annual premium Whitelands College celebration and crowning of the May Monarch
It is with great pleasure that we are opening invitations to students to attend the 146th Whitelands College May Day Celebrations on Saturday 9th May 2026 at Whitelands College, Holy Trinity Church.
The service will take place in Holy Trinity Church, graciously provided by the Revd Joshua Rey, followed by a meal and refreshments gathering in the Kings Head just 5 minutes’ walk from the church. Then we conclude with a blessing service followed by tea back at the college itself, a 5-minute walk from the King’s Head.
The Service will begin at 11.00 a.m. The programme for the day will follow its traditional course, for which you will receive a timetable for on the day.
The election of Queen Hannas’s successor took place during the month of March where our 146th Monarch was elected.

Nominations are now OPEN!!
In 1881 John Ruskin inaugurated the annual May Day ceremonies. It was Ruskin's wish that each year the students should elect 'the likeablest and the loveablest' of their number to be their May Queen. This enchanting tradition has survived and each year the current students vote in their May Monarch. As May Monarch, should you be elected, you will represent Whitelands by raising money for your charity of choice and the Whitelands College Guild, working alongside the Whitelands Student Leadership Manager and Student Leaders to have fun and add to the community of Whitelands College. As well as becoming part of a long tradition in the Whitelands College history you will also be to add an attention-grabbing dimension to your CV while raising money for charity. The role is open to all genders and religions, and offers a unique opportunity to bring your own flair to the position, while also making you part of a tradition over 140 years in the making.
Roles of the Position
• To work with the College team to create and run events to raise money and awareness for your chosen Charity and the Whitelands Guild.
• Discuss college matters with students, collect feedback and report back to HOC or Student Leadership Manager (SLM).
• Attend all scheduled college committee meetings set by the HOC.
• Attend a schedule of meetings as agreed with the Student Leadership Manager (SLM).
• Meet designated student groups (such as flat reps, programme reps) once per term or as agreed with the HOC.
• Attend designated College events as a representative of the College team.
Registration
The position of May Monarch is open to all students of Whitelands College or those living in Whitelands College residences. To register for the May Monarch election, you must first fill out the nomination registration form which can be found in our linktree page on our instagram, or by emailing the Student Leadership Manager below.
Nominations close 9th March so be quick!
