It’s felt very strange not to be at Canary Wharf studio today! A week after the last day of the course I still don’t quite have the words to describe the last eleven months of training!
I am so proud to receive this certificate!!!! 💕
Many people asked me why I decided to do this training so here’s the story.
I first met Alan as an eleven year old dancer, I was so incredibly lucky that he was my first Pilates teacher thirty five years ago at the Abingdon Ballet seminar! I was suffering from foot and ankle injuries and he recommended I go to one of his teachers who had set up one of the first studios outside of London at the Yorkshire Dance Centre in Leeds. I loved my weekly sessions on the ‘plié’ machine and even loved it when Diane made me do the Hundred and Series of Five facing up the incline table (if you know you know!)🤣🤣🤣
Ever since I knew Alan’s course existed I wanted to do it, but it was a dream - how could a kid from Yorkshire ever have enough money to live in London and train for a year? It seemed an impossible dream!!
To cut a very long story short, eighteen months ago not sure how I could get back into any sort of normality in our new Covid world with my dodgy lungs and with a kick up the bum from a friend I decided now was the right time to do the course.
It has been the most incredible year! When I retired from the dance world I thought the memorable years were over but these last months have been amazing! It has challenged me in so many ways but surrounded by my awesome course mates and three very special teachers it has been the most nurturing and inspiring journey.
Thank you doesn’t seem enough but thank you to .pilates and all the incredible teachers I’ve had the opportunity to observe and learn from during my training, I am forever grateful for this time 🙏🏻
I am very excited that I get to continue this journey as I will be teaching at the Seymour Street/Marble Arch studio on Saturdays from September, so please contact the studio to book in if you’d like to see what a special place it truly is 💕

In the Pilates industry there has been an explosion of new franchises teaching group Reformer based exercises to the general public. It is the hottest fitness craze.

I want to make it clear that most of these group classes are NOT Pilates but rather a fitness experience using the Pilates Reformer.

Most of the instructors of these classes have very limited knowledge of the Pilates Method as a whole.

There is a real concern for public safety in general. Many of the training courses the Group Reformer instructors receive do not include enough time for them to develop skills to help them teach safely or effectively. Some training is completed in less than 50 hours.

Most of these instructors and the general public are unaware that the Reformer is just one piece equipment used in the Pilates method.

A Comprehensively Trained Pilates Teacher has more than 450 hours of baseline training if they have done a reputable course. They are trained in Mat, Reformer, Trapeze Table, Wunda Chair and a variety of barrels and other sn]mall pieces of equipment.

They would also have learned contraindications to a variety of common injuries. These teachers have learned how to teach clients with various conditions and how to modify exercises accordingly.

A teacher will also know how to help clients integrate what they learn into every day life.

I urge you to ask where the instructor or teacher has been trained. Ask them what level of experience they have and if they are doing regular continuing education.

Reach out to me if you have questions or if you would like to up-skill your knowledge as a teacher.

I'm here to help. Use my almost 30 years of experience as a Pilates and movement rehabilitation teacher to help you make the right choices for you.

Today is World Bronchiectasis Day!
The aim is to raise global awareness, share knowledge and discuss ways to reduce the burden of Bronchiectasis for patients and their families.
Bronchiectasis is a chronic lung condition characterised by a persistent productive cough, frequent lung infections, inflammation and abnormal bronchial dilation. It can occur at any age.
Bronchiectasis can lead to accelerated lung function loss which can result in long term disability and premature death in adults.
One positive thing to come out of our Covid era is more awareness of respiratory health.
My diagnosis although devastating, brought about the creation of the
Part of that workshop is aiming to bring awareness of dysfunctional breathing/breathing pattern disorders to Pilates and movement teachers.
So my World Bronchiectasis Day was spent with the Physiotherapy for Breathing Pattern Disorders group improving my knowledge about BPD 🫁

What a fabulous day! Today I was very lucky to have the opportunity to attend Breathing To Win
Huge thanks to and (some of you may have met Julie Pilates On Tour conference in April) and all the presenters, attendees, ‘demo bodies’ and staff. It was lovely to feel very welcome among a group of such incredibly knowledgeable respiratory specialists/clinicians/physios.
Along with filling my brain with breathing related goodness I got to finally meet some of the wonderful respiratory physios I’ve followed on since my own Bronchiectasis diagnosis and through my learning via Loughborough College for my exercise specialist qualification. So lovely to finally meet you 😊
Next up on the learning front for me is a study day on breathing pattern disorders with the Physiotherapy for BPD group and the week after that I’ll be talking to as part of her Good Egg chat series on IG, we’ll be talking about breathing of course!
Please get in touch with myself or Kath if you have any questions or have a topic you’d like us to discuss!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone and try to take a few minutes to become more aware of your breathing! 🫁💕💃🏻

It’s time for another Rest & Restore class!
Are you struggling with sleep, either struggling to get to sleep or suffering from broken sleep?
Do you experience low level anxiety? You know that constant state where we feel a bit stressed, nervous or feel like things are just a bit ‘off’!
Any of the above issues can lead to us being stuck in a state of ‘fight or flight’ which can lead to breathing pattern disorders such as upper chest breathing and hyperventilation.
Try breathing ‘low and slow’, pop one hand on your chest and one hand on your abdomen and notice where you feel your breath travelling to.
In Friday’s class I will teach some techniques to stimulate the Vagus nerve and activate our parasympathetic nervous system along with some breath retraining exercises to reduce breathlessness and breathing pattern disorders.
Everyone is welcome!

The Rest & Restore class is a wonderfully calming and restorative 75 minutes of ‘you’ time.
You will feel calmer and lots of people report sleeping very well afterwards!
Perfect for everyone but especially if you have any respiratory, anxiety or sleep issues.
Class is online via Zoom on Friday 31st at 7pm, it’s recorded so if you can’t make it just book your place and I will send you the recording. Everyone who books their spot will have 14 days access to the recording so you can do it as many times as you wish.
If you have any questions please get in touch and if you’d like to book please do so via the link in my bio! 🫁 😘
