This is the official page of The Prince's Teaching Institute - inspirational professional development for teachers and school leaders since 2002.

Here at The Prince's Teaching Institute, we believe that all children, whatever their background or ability, are entitled to be taught by passionate teachers who are knowledgeable about the subjects they teach. We re-engage teachers with their specialist subjects, inspiring them to bring renewed enthusiasm into their classrooms and raise the aspirations of their pupils.

The last online CPD course of the year is coming up, and it’s free! 💷

The course will provide teachers with:

💡Ways to embed financial education into their school

Our first New Teacher Subject Day of the academic year brought nearly 100 teachers together at Pimlico Academy last Saturday for a full day of learning and development!

The day began with an introduction by Carolyn Roberts, our Co-Director, who spoke from decades of experience about what it means to be a teacher and why it's so important. Then, teachers of nine subjects split off to learn more about their subject in-depth 🧠

🧪 Chemistry teachers explored Atomic and Molecular Spectroscopy with Professor Claire Vallance, and Magnetic Resonance with Dr. Alice Bowen,

🔌Physics teachers practiced Circuits Modelling with Tips from Mark Fuller, and learned about electricity and lightning with Rhys Philips

🧬 Biology teachers heard a lecture from Pankaj Chandak, Research Fellow at King's College London - and took part in a practical session of dissection!

All subjects also participated in teacher-led workshops, learning resource assignments and reflection.

With help from so many teacher leaders sharing their knowledge and passion, the commitment of so many new and early career teachers to their subject, and a lot of hard work planning behind the scenes, the day has received really lovely feedback. We're looking forward to the next one on the 23rd in Leeds!

🔅 Spotlight Schools: St Thomas of Canterbury RC Primary School 🔅

We want to share more about the schools we work with and their work delivering exceptional teaching. Every half-term, we’ll introduce a primary and a secondary school demonstrating long-term commitment to subject knowledge – our Spotlight Schools!

Our inaugural Primary Spotlight School is St Thomas of Canterbury RC School. They’ve been a member of the Bolton PTI Primary Hub for over five years 🎉 Currently, they’re focussing on learning about local geography. In October they went on a field trip with Geograohy teacher lead John Wilkinso. Now, they're planning on collaborating with schools within their Hub to share their different school grounds along with activities for the environments 🗺️

If you want to read more about St Thomas of Canterbury RC Primary School, there’s a blog post written by their deputy headteacher on our website. You can find it here: https://bit.ly/4fF9HhG

Pictures from a busy week at The PTI 🥳

On Tuesday, we hosted a History Virtual Primary Hub with Christine Counsell who shared her expertise with Primary School teachers, who teach history even when it sits outside their subject specialism.

On Thursday, we returned to history. Our Greenwich Primary Hub discussed object-based learning, local history, and developing an ambitious Primary curriculum with Kate Fowler, School Learning Producer at and Alex O’Halloran, history teacher at Thomas Tallis School.

That same evening, we ran an online computing hub. We were joined by .yaseminallsop.mbe, a lecturer in Early years and Primary education at and co-editor of the International Journal of Computer Science Education in Schools. Teachers learned about using unplugged activities to teach computational concepts, and the issues and challenges that arise, using findings from relevant studies.

In the office, we’ve been preparing to run New Teacher Subject Days, the first of which starts tomorrow! Expect lots of pictures to arrive in your feeds tomorrow.

As always, thanks to all our teachers, speakers and participants, bringing experience, knowledge and open minds to our sessions 🧠
