Their parents have often commented on how their child's confidence and attitude have developed positively through their Kumon journey. Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work. There are about equal numbers of maths and English students and the centre has developed particular expertise with students whose first language is not English. There is a dedicated team of multi-lingual young assistants, most of whom have gone through the Kumon programmes themselves. The centre has considerable experience in working with young learners, from nursery age onwards, many of whom develop into long term success stories through Kumon.
