One month to go until the inaugural Cambridge AI in Education Summit 2026.

Today, we’re unveiling a packed programme of high quality research with speakers and contributors from around the world, and details of more than 50 papers exploring AI and human intelligence in education.

"We want to help build the understanding, evidence and capacity that learners, educators and institutions need to navigate the world and shape the tools - and therefore futures - they want to create," said Amin Neghavati, Cambridge's Director of Education Futures.

Over two days - 15 to 16 October - experts in AI and education, including academics, industry experts and teachers, will help to shape debate on emerging topics ranging from AI avatar tutors to personal AI knowledge twins.

"Summits like this give us the opportunity to move beyond the simple question of whether AI is 'good' or 'bad' for education and instead ask what kind of education do we want in an AI-rich world," said Professor Johanna Pirker.

“War inflicts some of the most long-term impacts on learning.”

On the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, Jane Mann, our Chief Education Officer, sets out how Cambridge is helping protect the education of children impacted by conflict and other crises by working with trusted partners.

Over the last decade, Cambridge has worked in partnership in many locations - Lebanon, Bangladesh, Kenya and Iraq to name a few - where children are displaced by war, or other challenges such as persecution or climate change.

“All children deserve the chance to keep learning and achieve their goals. The world really needs the talents of these young people.

“Our focus at Cambridge is helping to put in place the foundation stones of a good education, whatever the location. We do this through well-supported teachers, curriculum frameworks, high-quality resources, meaningful assessment and recognition of learning and assessment achievements.”

We’re taking part in UNESCO’s Digital Learning Week 2026 in Paris tomorrow, sharing findings from our research into AI mathematics tutors and their potential to support learners in disadvantaged communities around the globe.

Rachad Zaki, Director of Cambridge Mathematics, and Xinyue Li, Research Associate, will be presenting their cutting-edge research. This explores using Small Language Models (SLMS) to make AI-supported mathematics learning more accessible, affordable and robust for learners in low-resource and low-connectivity settings.

We’re looking forward to joining the global conversation around this year’s theme, “Education in the age of AI: Facts | Frictions | Frontiers”, exploring how AI can open up new opportunities for learners everywhere, rather than deepening inequalities.

From school libraries in Kenya to school improvements in India: charities are responding to the needs of their communities.

As we observe the International Day of Charity, we’re celebrating two organisations working to create better learning environments for students and teachers.

Through Books to Go, Book Aid International provides school libraries with 2,000 brand-new children’s books, giving children the opportunity to choose books to take home and read with their families. The programme has supported training for over 100 teachers to help inspire families to read at home.

In India, Yuva Unstoppable’s Green School Transformation programme has supported six schools with improvements such as separate toilets, handwashing facilities, solar panels and rainwater harvesting to make learning more comfortable for students and teachers.

Cambridge is proud to support these amazing charities whose local expertise is helping schools and communities thrive.

Of the 49 million young people worldwide displaced by crises, only nine percent attend university, compared to the 42 percent global average.

The G12++ qualification was created to help address this systemic gap by providing young people forcibly displaced from their homes with a recognised pathway to further education and skilled employment.

The first-ever G12++ cohort has now graduated and is exceptional, with students securing full scholarships to universities around the world, including in the UK, Canada, India and Lebanon.

Developed by the Alsama with support from Cambridge, G12++ also gives universities a credible admissions tool to recognise the potential of displaced students.

Jane Mann, our Chief Education Officer, describes the first graduations as “a significant milestone” for displaced students and for education more widely.
