Great to be invited back to today to discuss community cohesion and opportunities for young people. Thanks to Myles Stacey OBE and the for having me.

I learnt from partners from across our space and got some new ideas on what can be done to create more opportunities for school leavers.

Many students are just starting to work on their applications now. They can still do well for themselves. Parents, this time for your children is likely to be stressful- support them, but hold them accountable for their work ethic in the upcoming weeks.

If a student is HIGHLY confident in their academic ability, I would recommend picking 2 aspirational + 2 standards + 1 Safe. If the student is less confident (with fluctuating grades) then I would recommend 1 Aspirational + 2 Standard + 2 safe.

A good alternative to the UK, Canada, or the US?

Dutch universities that teach in English.

Good quality of education + smaller price tag.

If your son/daughter wants to apply to or , they may have to write an essay to justify their choice.

“Because it’s in ” is probably one of the worst answers an applicant can write because it demonstrates a lack of background research. Avoid!

Need to do some CV-building for :

1) courses
2) Taking extra classes at school
3) Hosting a school talk with invited external speakers (comment below if you want my cold email blueprint)

Not difficult. Just takes a bit of time.

To anyone whose kid didn’t start filling in their application portals…

Don’t wait till the last minute. Most portals for the and the are already open!

Strong university candidates have a single narrative that runs through their applications.

They don't randomly jump from a thing to thing but, instead, focus on a few activities that link up in a logical order.

Encourage your kids to think about narrative and how it will look.
