🎺 We're delighted to announce that alumnus Tom Nielsen has been appointed Professor of Trumpet in the Wind, Brass & Percussion department.

Recognised as one of the most exciting brass players of his generation, Tom has quickly established himself at the forefront of the orchestral scene. In April 2023, he joined the London Philharmonic Orchestra as Co-Principal Trumpet and, following two seasons of acclaimed performances, was appointed Joint Principal in May 2025.

Tom graduated from our BMus (Hons) programme in 2022, having previously studied with Junior Guildhall since 2014.

Speaking about his new role, Tom said: "I am incredibly excited to be joining the trumpet professorial staff at Guildhall. It is extra special for me as I have been associated with the institution since I was 13, when I attended Junior Guildhall and then the main school when I was 18. I cannot wait to pass on the knowledge that I have gained here for many years to come."

Trombonist Toby Oft visited the school for a masterclass last month. Students left with inspiring and insightful ideas to take further into their practice.

It was a privilege to welcome back Guildhall alumnus Tom Nielsen last week. Recently promoted to joint Principal Trumpet of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Tom returned to the School to deliver a masterclass for Trumpet students in the department.

We were thrilled to see Principal Oboe and Bassoon of London Symphony Orchestra join us, sharing their expertise with students in another inspiring masterclass.

Last Thursday, students welcomed esteemed French Saxophonist, researcher and pedagogue Claude Delangle to deliver a masterclass. It was an inspiring experience for all involved.

The Saxophone Department present an eclectic showcase of works next Monday evening at 7pm for a free concert in Silk Street Music hall. Directed by Christian Forshaw it promises to be an exciting programme. Full details available via the link in bio
