Congratulations to UCL-supported startup, eNOugh, for securing their first investment!

The startup, founded by UCL alumni Ina Jovicic (MSc Entrepreneurship) and Gaelic Jara Reinhold (BEng Engineering), is tackling the critical issue of personal safety head-on. Their innovative AI-powered protection badge is designed to empower women and ensure they feel safe walking alone at night.

The startup has just completed its first pre-seed funding round, raising £240,000. The round was led by PurposeTech VC and included contributions from several global angel investors.

Co-founder Ina said: “We initially planned to raise only from angel investors, but we’re thrilled that the process exceeded our expectations, and we were approached by an incredible VC, which, of course, adds even more credibility.”

The startup is being supported as part of the UCL Hatchery incubator programme. 🚀

More on our Touchless Computing software; MotionInput, which was featured on BBC Click recently.

Software that allows users to control a computer using a range of gestures and movements with just a we**am and PC, invented by academics from UCL Computer Science, was put through its paces by school students and the BBC’s Paul Carter.

Initially developed in 2020, MotionInput Games has undergone several generations of improvements, integrating offline and privacy-safe Artificial Intelligence for PCs, with the help of industry partners including Intel Corporation.

From our Multi-Sensory Devices team.👃

UCL-supported business OW Smell Made Digital is developing a digital scent technology to enhance people’s sleep quality. The business has secured £1.5 million of private investment and a £700,000 Innovate UK grant.

Scientific research provides strong evidence that scents can have a profound effect on an individual’s emotions and improve their quality of sleep.

OW's sleep solution uses AI-based scent algorithms, electronics, sensors, biofeedback and the company’s scent distribution technology to deliver a user-friendly smart system. The technology will be able to detect where someone has difficulties in their sleep cycle and release custom scents.

Co-founders and UCL academics Dr Emanuela Maggioni and Professor Marianna Obrist have worked with Innovate UK Business Growth, of which UCL Innovation & Enterprise is a delivery partner, to shape their idea and secure the Innovate UK funding.
