Alums who spent a semester in London state again and again that ICLC is life-changing, and one of the best if not the best experience of their college careers.

The holidays are almost here! This week’s group photo is from Fall 2012! Not sure why many people are not paying attention but maybe someone here knows and can tell us the story in the comments. This will be the last group photo until next year 😉 See you in 2025!
Today is Giving Tuesday: a global day of generosity. If you're in a position to 'donate to the IC London Center' you'll find that link below. All donations for the London Center will go toward enhancing student experiences during their semester abroad. We thank you in advance for any and all donations on behalf of our future ICLC students!

Thank you to alum, Andrew O’Neill Spring '84, who sent us photos connected with a class he took during his time at ICLC, Marxism: A Centenary Course. Read below to see what he said!
“Going from left to right, you have a student (Amy Weber — I think!), another student (he looks familiar but I don’t remember a name), Brian Taylor (Economics), Eva Gamarnikow (Sociology), and Bill Sheasgreen (History). In addition to the class sessions and field trips, one or maybe all three of the teachers created an interesting Victorian Parlour Game with trivia related to Marx, Engels, and Marx’s daughters Eleanor and Jenny.
The aim of three teachers for this one course was to examine Marx’s ideas through his own writings, exploring history (Bill Sheasgreen), sociology (Eva Gamarnikow), and economics (Brian Taylor). Very interesting stuff, and three very good teachers. The syllabus even broke down what was being explored, and who specifically was doing the teaching, on each and every day of the course throughout the entire semester. I am glad I took this course, and the approach used was one of the highlights of my time at the ICLC”

"My London semester was fantastic and I fell in love with this city I now call home. The history, the buzz, the cosmopolitan-ness, the melting pot of languages and cultures, the fantastic cultural offerings - I fell in love with it all. My classmate / flatmate Katie said at the time that “I was eating the city alive” and she was right as I was trying to see and do so much in the time we had. […] I still cherish the memories from the Fall of 1999 and it was wonderful to connect with so many alumni in the summer, to share our memories from this very special city and our time at the ICLC!" 💙💛
Thank you to Jessica Martenson for sharing her heartwarming story and photos with us! Check out the full story on our blog—linked below! Are you an ICLC alum with memories to share? Email us at [email protected]!

You’re so close to making to it Fall Break, which means it’s time to start thinking about the midterm photo contest! This is a tradition we have at ICLC, in which students capture photos during the break to enter into three categories; People, Landscape, and Architecture. Each student may enter one photo into each category (you do not have to enter all three categories).
Send your photos as attachments to [email protected] before 11:59pm on Monday, October 28th for a chance of winning! Photo files must be titled with your last name, place or description, and the category for which you are submitting it, for example; “Smith, Colosseum, Rome, Architecture.” We love to see photos of your adventures so please send in a few snaps! Remember, all winners receive free ICLC merch. 😊✈️

Last week, visited ICLC to help students register to vote, obtain their absentee ballot, and mail them out. They were so kind when helping our students, and many of them were able to vote that day! If you haven’t done so already, there’s still time to order your absentee ballot. If you have done this already, all absentee ballot should have been sent out so check your email/mail and contact your local elections office if you have difficulty. Studying abroad is no excuse not to vote, make your voice heard!
Introducing the next “Humans of Elsie”, our very own voice professor, Jackie Barron! 💙💛
1. What is something you’re excited to experience in London soon?
Going to see the film ‘Avatar’ performed for the first time with ‘live’ orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall next month, featuring my daughter, Eleanor Grant, as the vocal soloist. I have been invited to the VIP party afterwards!
2. What are people surprised to learn about you?
I have a UK City and Guilds qualification in Interior Decorating and Design.
3. What experience as a teenager or a child has had a positive impact on your life?
Any of the performing opportunities I was given, both in school and in the wider community.
3. If you could have dinner with one celebrity, who would it be and why?
I would say Lady Sarah Chatto, a cousin of King Charles, only niece of the late Queen Elizabeth. She is a ‘celebrity’ by default through her connection to the royal family but appears both discreet and gracious. She is also an artist and is married to an actor/artist, so hopefully there would be plenty to talk about over dinner.
4. What advice would you give a student wanting to come to London?
Visit London! It is an amazing city, with some of the best concert halls, theatres, and museums in the world. It is easy to get around on the excellent network of tubes, trains, and buses, but I would recommend lots of walking, that way you see so much more, many stunning buildings and of course the beautiful parks.
