🌟 Sharon completed her SHIP journey in Sevilla 🇪🇸 with Spanish Express. She stayed with our Spanish host teacher, Carmen, fully immersing herself in Spanish during meals, conversations, and daily life at home ☕🏡. This experience allowed her to hear local accents, pick up new vocabulary, and use Spanish confidently in real situations.

Previously, Sharon had studied in Barcelona with Mónica and Valencia with Pilar, giving her a broader understanding of Spanish across different regions.

At 66, Sheila from Illinois decided to return to a language that had been part of her life many years ago 🌿. After retiring from a long career in law, she came to Gilet, Valencia, to refresh her Spanish, speak with more confidence, and enjoy learning simply for herself.

Staying with Pilar gave Sheila the chance to use Spanish from morning to night. Lessons helped bring back grammar she had forgotten, while conversations over meals, walks, shopping and time together gradually made speaking feel easier and more natural. And with interests ranging from travel and family to current affairs, there was never a shortage of things to talk about! ✨

Valencia added plenty of flavour to the week too 🥘. Sheila arrived just in time to enjoy a paella celebration, explored the city’s history and culture, discovered its more modern side, and finished her stay with horchata and a relaxed tapas dinner. At the entrance to Ciutadella’s historic harbour 🌊, the Castell de Sant Nicolau stands where the Mediterranean Sea, history, and island life come together ✨. Built in the 17th century, this small but impressive defensive tower once helped protect the city from attacks arriving by sea.

A short coastal walk from the centre of Ciutadella leads to this peaceful landmark 🏛️. Its distinctive octagonal shape, stone moat, and strategic position reveal an important part of Menorca’s military past, while the views from the tower stretch across the harbour, coastline, and open sea 🌍.

As the sun begins to set, the surroundings become especially beautiful 🌅, making it a perfect place to walk, talk, learn, and experience Menorca at a slower pace.

🌟 Stacey continued her Spanish Homestay Immersion Program journey in Valencia 🇪🇸 with Spanish Express.

She stayed in Valencia (Gilet) with our Spanish host teacher, Pilar, where Spanish was part of her daily routine. Stacey practiced the language through simple talks at home, shared meals, and relaxed daily moments, helping her speak with ease and confidence ☕🏡.

Before Valencia, Stacey had started in Barcelona with Mónica, which gave her a solid foundation in Spanish and prepared her for a deeper immersion in Valencia.

This experience allowed Stacey to feel at home with the language, improving her vocabulary and fluency while living like a local.

🌟 Sofia and Flora travelled to Valencia 🇪🇸 to learn Spanish together through the Spanish Homestay Immersion Programme (SHIP).

Dore'lys travelled to Valencia with one clear goal: to prepare for her A Level Spanish oral exam. But after just a few days, it became about so much more than studying. Living with her host teacher meant every conversation, every meal, and every day became another opportunity to build confidence in Spanish.

Her project focused on Las Fallas, so there couldn't have been a better time to visit. Instead of simply reading about the festival, she experienced it for herself, watching the city come alive with colour, tradition, and celebration. Seeing everything first-hand gave real meaning to the topic she had worked so hard to prepare.

By the end of the week, Dore'lys left with a stronger command of Spanish, greater confidence in her speaking, and memories that no classroom could ever provide.

Museum

Just a short trip from Barcelona 🌿, the Nau Gaudí in Mataró is where Antoni Gaudí's extraordinary journey began. Long before the Sagrada Família, this was the very first building he designed, combining innovative architecture with practical industrial design in a way that would shape his future masterpieces.

Today, this beautifully restored building is home to one of Catalonia's finest collections of contemporary art, where history and creativity come together under Gaudí's remarkable parabolic arches. Walking through its bright, open spaces offers a fascinating glimpse into the origins of one of the world's greatest architects.
