The Year l & ll Architectural Technology students did their Technology of Architecture module in the Fabrication Lab, they learnt how to use different materials and where the materials lie within the building structure. In these images we see them working in the Metal Shop preparing Joist Hangers. Joist Hangers are used to strengthen load bearing or non load bearing timber connections as well as to use face mount attachments to fasten joists to ledger boards and beams. 😃The students needed to model these joists in preparation for assembling a 1:2 house frame.

This past week we had a intensive workshop with first year BA architecture students which was a wonderful success 😊 the workshop was an introduction to design through making with emphasis on learning to use Rhino 2D and the laser cutters to create physical models. The students worked in pairs on a kinetic build to represent/create the movement of the building as well as its overall architecture, it was a steep learning curve and they managed it very well 👌
