🎶✨ Yesterday, we saw The Snowman at Blackheath Halls, accompanied by East London Brass—it was pure magic! 🎻 Despite having so many shows, the performers brought incredible energy and precision every single time.

It reminded me of a lesson I share with my Maths students: repetition isn’t just doing something again—it’s about mastery! 💪

Your child might think, “I’ve done this question before, why try it again?” But the real challenge is: can they solve it without looking at their notes? Can they adapt the skill to a new problem? Repetition builds fluency, confidence, and success. Keep practicing—you’ve got this! ✨

My 3-year-old and I were setting up our advent calendar this weekend, and he proudly counted up to 25 in English and Italian! 🇬🇧🇮🇹

It got me thinking... 🤔

🎯 How far can we push Year 9 students in Maths?

In today’s session, we accomplished so much! 🚀

🌟 We started by mastering rearranging formulas (changing the subject)—an essential skill for GCSE success.

🧠 Then, we tackled solving simultaneous equations using the substitution method. My student demonstrated such confidence and fluency in their algebra skills that we didn’t need to reteach the basics. Instead, I challenged them further by introducing solving simultaneous equations by elimination—a topic they haven’t encountered in school yet!

🔗 Together, we compared both methods, analyzing their strengths and reflecting on when one might be more efficient than the other. This deeper understanding prepares them for even more complex challenges, like solving systems involving quadratic equations.

✨ The outcome?

- A boost in problem-solving confidence.
- Exposure to higher-level GCSE content at Year 9.
- A growing passion for Maths as they see their skills improve lesson by lesson.
