Look out for the sticker:
Whether youโ€™re breastfeeding, bottle-feeding or expressing milk, feeding your baby is an important part of everyday life.

Although parents have the legal right to breastfeed in public places, one in three mothers say they have felt uncomfortable doing so.

One in ten parents say they have felt uncomfortable bottle feeding in public.

By identifying our Libraries, Best Start Family Hubs and local venues as Baby Feeding Friendly Spaces, we can help reassure parents that they are welcome, supported and able to feed their baby safely.
Next time you visit one of our locations, look out for the Baby Feeding Friendly Space sticker. The sticker shows that this location is a Baby Feeding Friendly Space.

Staff in these locations understand the importance of helping parents feed their babies comfortably, whether they are breastfeeding, bottle feeding or expressing milk.

They are there to help if you have any questions or need support.

๐Ÿ–ค We All We Got.

This Black Breastfeeding Week, we're celebrating 15 years of community, care and collective power.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Who or what helped you most during your feeding journey? Whether it was family, friends, a support group, or a healthcare professional, we'd love to hear your story.

๐Ÿ–ค Black Breastfeeding Week is a time to celebrate Black families, recognise the importance of culturally responsive infant feeding support, and raise awareness of the inequalities that still exist. Every family deserves compassionate, evidence-based breastfeeding support that respects their experiences, values and choices.

Throughout this week, we'll be sharing information, practical tips, and details of the support available to help parents and families on their feeding journey.

Together, we can help ensure every family feels seen, heard and supported.

Though the recommended room temperature for babies is 16 โ€“ 20ยฐC, keeping your baby's room temperature in this range can be harder in summer or in a heatwave!

We want to remind you that in really hot weather, it's fine to dress your baby in just a nappy, or a short sleeve vest. Research shows that babies are safer being cooler than being too hot, as overheating increases the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

It might also help to:
- Open the bedroom door and a window, if itโ€™s safe to do so, to allow the air to flow.
- Use a fan to cool the room, but donโ€™t aim it directly towards the baby.
- Keep curtains closed in the daytime so the room doesnโ€™t heat up as much.
- Use a thermometer to check the room is the right temperature โ€“ as itโ€™s hard to guess.

But even after doing all of the above in this heat, it can be frustrating when the room is still hot and it's out of your control. So for peace of mind, continue following all of our safer sleep guidance ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://bit.ly/4hXVWfq
