We are extremely saddened to hear of the passing on 8th June of Rambert School alumna, Sara Matthews.
Sara trained at Rambert School before joining Rambert Dance Company in 1985, where she enjoyed a distinguished 11-year performing career, working with three Artistic Directors - Robert North, Richard Alston, and Christopher Bruce- and appearing in works by numerous choreographers.
After retiring from the stage Sara pursued her passion for nurturing artistic excellence, returning to Rambert School to teach and later joining Central School of Ballet, first as Head of Dance and then later as Artistic Director, where she made a lasting contribution to the training and development of future generations of dancers. Her commitment to the advancement of dance training continued in her roles at Trinity Laban as Dean of the Faculty of Dance, and subsequently as Director of Dance.
Sara will be remembered with great affection and admiration by the Rambert School family. Her contribution to dance, both as a performer and educator, leaves a lasting legacy. Our thoughts are very much with her family and friends at this difficult time.

MA Intensive Days 2026❤️🔥
Our MA Intensives are designed as a space for connection, exchange and collective learning. They offer our MA practitioners the opportunity to share their evolving practices with undergraduate students and with each other, creating a dynamic environment where ideas, processes and research can be experienced first-hand.
Across the Intensive Days, we engaged with a rich spectrum of work emerging from the MA cohort - spanning diverse modes, approaches and perspectives. Graduates of the course also returned to share the evolution of their work since completing their Masters as well as external keynote speakers sharing their expertise.
At the heart of the experience are dialogue, reflection and participation — the key ways in which we deepen our understanding and learn from one another as a community.
Keep your eyes out for more about the days and about our research practitioners👀
