🎓 GCSEs are over. But is your child's current Sixth Form still the right fit?
Many families automatically continue into their school's Sixth Form. After all, there are plenty of reasons to stay:

You may be familiar with the three questions which form the Personal Statement section of the UCAS university application:

❓Why do you want to study this course or subject?

❓How have your qualifications and studies helped you to prepare for this course or subject?

❓What else have you done to prepare outside of education, and why are these experiences useful?

If you are struggling to answer, then we can help.

Some students feel they don’t have much to say to answer question 3 and yet this is the most interesting section for an admissions officer to read. Learning more about a candidate’s reading or work experience for instance and how they have reflected on it is precisely what marks out a strong applicant from a less convincing one.

It’s often not easy to secure work experience but there are summer programmes that offer exactly this kind of opportunity. Some academic summer programmes provide insights into future studies at university and can set alight a genuine passion. This makes it a joy to answer question 3! Just one short session on a summer course can fire up your imagination, give you the opportunity to discuss ideas with other curious students and the session leader – usually a serious academic themselves. It’s not only the content of the summer course that is important but just as often the thinking that you do independently as a result that helps answer question 3 in a compelling way, demonstrating analysis of a topic and thoughtfulness.

Suitable summer programmes to set you on course to write a brilliant personal statement can be in person or even online! A-levels, IB and BTEC success is vital of course, but it’s the inspiration that a summer course can offer that can really push you ahead, opening up new opportunities and areas to research – way beyond your school studies. 📢 How to read UK Boarding School League Tables - and what they really tell you.
If you're exploring UK boarding schools for your child, you've probably come across league tables. But what are they actually measuring and how much weight should you give them?
The League Tables https://conta.cc/4j60CjH://conta.cc/3RK1D4Y/school-league-tables are among the most respected in the world, covering the highest-performing British private schools based on 2025 exam results. Here's what's available:
The tables you can explore:
• 🏫 Top UK Boarding Schools - co-ed, girls' and boys' (by A-Level results)
• 📚 Top UK Boarding Schools by GCSE
• 🎓 Top IB Schools - UK and global
• 🏙️ Top Sixth Form Colleges and London Schools
What the rankings measure:
Each table ranks schools by the percentage of top grades achieved by students in public examinations - A*/A at A-Level, grades 9–7 at GCSE, or average IB scores. Only schools with a minimum cohort of 20 students qualify, keeping the data meaningful. The tables are based on clear and fair criteria and are updated every year.
What the tables don't tell you:
A high ranking often reflects highly selective admissions and some schools at the very top reject over 90% of applicants. A school lower in the table may offer an equally exceptional education for a wider range of abilities and learning styles.
League tables are a useful starting point but they're just one piece of the picture. The right school for your child depends on far more than exam results alone.
