Living Systems Residency Pop-Up Exhibition
Modern Fertility
By Cindy Lin

As the culmination of her Living Systems Residency, Cindy Lin presents Modern Fertility—an ongoing interdisciplinary project examining the entangled relations between technology, gender, and reproductive futures.

A Taiwanese American lens-based artist and researcher, Lin works across photography, installation, and computational media to explore how bodies, data, and technological systems co-produce contemporary experiences of identity and potential motherhood.

Through still life photography, personal archives, interviews, and AI-generated imagery, Modern Fertility critically examines the commodification of the female body within the global fertility industry, revealing how predictive systems, demographic data, and algorithmic infrastructures shape reproductive timelines through logics of optimization, desirability, and risk.

Works such as Baby Lottery expose biases embedded within generative image systems, where algorithmic outputs reproduce and amplify Western-centric aesthetic standards. By integrating machine learning with materially grounded processes of collage, photography, and object-making, Lin destabilizes the boundaries between the computational and the corporeal.

Rather than presenting technology as neutral, Modern Fertility foregrounds its active role in reconfiguring bodies, identities, and futures.

Living Systems Residency – Exposición Pop-Up- Modern Fertility by
Cindy Lin

This pop-up exhibition presents Cindy Lin’s interdisciplinary practice at the intersection of technology, gender, and identity.

At its core is Modern Fertility, an ongoing project examining how reproductive bodies are shaped by data, socio-economic pressures, and the global fertility industry. Through photography, archives, and AI-generated imagery, Lin reveals the invisible systems that govern reproductive timelines and choices.

Working within an exhibitionary matrix of images, objects, and algorithms, the work invites viewers to consider how technology, bias, and lived experience are entangled in the construction of contemporary identity.

Enter the Living Systems Residency — Bogotá 2026.

Step into a space where art, matter, and agency entangle. Living Systems Residency invites artists to explore practice as research, where meaning emerges through intra-actions between humans, materials, technologies, and environments. Grounded in new materialism, posthumanism, and agential realism, the programme is a laboratory for diffractive thinking — a place where making, thinking, and curating unfold together.

Join a small cohort of practitioners and experiment within a shared studio ecosystem, generating projects that are responsive, relational, and alive. Engage with Bogotá’s dynamic cultural landscape while tracing patterns of co-agency, material resonance, and more-than-human connection. Residency slots are limited — apply to entangle your practice with the living systems of the world. Link in the bio.

-
SIMBIONTE is configured as a curatorial project that proposes reimagining the skin beyond its conception as a mere biological boundary. Conceived as a porous and dynamic interface, the skin is here articulated as a space of convergence where bodies, technologies, and environments intertwine in processes of constant transformation.
