our next installation project for our event on the 8th of july is ‘circling back, circling forwards’, created by Emily Hazrati and Nazli Tabatabai-Khatambakhsh 🌤

Emily and Nazli are a composer-writer team on the Opera Makers programme. Their collaborations are varied and expansive, exploring narratives of displacement, social justice, biodiversity and more. Recent projects include the monodrama ‘Song for Sara’ (for soprano Eline Vandenheede), RED LETTER DAY for orchestra and narrator (written as part of the Illuminated River project), and their new chamber opera ‘Paradise Garden’, premiered at Milton Court 1st-6th July.

‘Our piece for the NMS Summer Event ‘circling back, circling forwards’ celebrates and reflects on our year of ongoing collaboration. By making a score based on illustrations from Nazli’s journal, with fleeting music and text commentary from both of us, we want to offer our audience words and sounds that are indivisible, deeply personal to us, and yet open to infinite interpretations.’ 🌷

catch this and more at our event on the 8th july !!! more info and tickets on the event page 🐞

announcing our first installation for our event on the 8th !!! 🌷

Emily Pahlawan Collinson and Anna Semple are a newly-established artistic collaboration, combining music with movement to create new dramatic work which disrupts the mind/body hierarchy.

They approach music as an embodied practice, and are also committed to generating material through collaboration, using skill-sharing, mutual care and support, and a non-judgmental attitude to create new work. 🐞

“Flora is a duet for viola and dancer based on the textures and characteristics of four different flowers (Dandelion, Rose, Snowdrop, and Ghost Orchid) and the gestures generated when drawing them. The piece explores how sound can be generated through movement, with the dancer and the violist moving together and interacting throughout the piece. Both the theme of flowers and the method of creating music through the body aim to centre ‘femininity’ in artistic practice, and all our work is driven by an implicit interrogation of traditional (‘male’) forms of composing and presenting music. By drawing our attention to the shapes, colours, and texture of flowers, we hope to focus the public’s attention to the natural world and to new ways of practising in a thought-provoking and tangible way.” 🌤

catch this amongst other student works (TBA!) on the 8th of July @ St Giles Cripplegate — grab your tickets now !!
