On Friday 22nd May, we came together to celebrate a truly meaningful moment in our history as we officially renamed our building Haycraft House, honouring the remarkable legacy of our founders, Brita and John Haycraft.

The day felt especially poignant as it would have marked Brita’s 95th birthday, making our celebrations not only a tribute to International House’s past, but also to the vision and warmth that Brita and John brought to everything they created.

Throughout the day, former colleagues, family, and friends shared heartfelt memories and stories, reminding us of the countless lives touched by their passion for education. We also opened a special exhibition from our archives, showcasing materials written by generations of IH teachers, which was a beautiful reflection of the community and spirit they built over the last 60 years.

Today, the Haycraft name now proudly stands on our building, alongside a permanent installation in our reception that tells the inspiring journey Brita and John took to found International House. It is a lasting reminder of the values they instilled and the legacy that continues to shape who we are today.

To everyone who joined us, especially those who have been part of the IH London story across the decades, thank you. Your presence made the day incredibly special, and we are so grateful to have celebrated Brita and John’s legacy together. 💙✨️

📣Call for Speakers!📣

The future of ELT is changing fast and so are the questions facing teacher education and assessment.

The Future of Training Conference 2026 is looking for practical, interactive session proposals that explore the issues we all recognise, but rarely have the time or space to unpack in depth.

We’re especially keen to hear fresh perspectives on the evolving nature of ELT and what this means for teachers, trainers, and assessment moving forward.

Have an idea worth sharing? Submit your speaker proposal by Monday 15 June 👉 ihlondon.com/future-of-training-conference-2026-speakers

Honouring the Haycraft Legacy 💙

As we prepare to celebrate the incredible legacy of our founders, Brita and John Haycraft, we’re inviting our International House community to help us tell their story.

Do you have a favourite memory, anecdote, photo, or video from the early days of IH or of the Haycrafts themselves? We would love to hear from you as we gather stories to celebrate the people, moments, and history that shaped International House London.

These contributions may become part of our founder celebrations on Friday 22nd May 2026, so do send your memories to Mini at IH London.

Please note that videos sent should be LANDSCAPE.
