Masseter Botox is often marketed as a simple “jaw slimming” treatment — but as an aesthetics practitioner, you need to understand what you are actually treating and why.
💎 For facial slimming
When the masseter muscles are enlarged, reducing their activity can gradually decrease muscle bulk and create a softer, slimmer lower-face appearance.
💆‍♀️ For muscle tension
For clients who clench or overwork their masseters, treatment may be considered to reduce excessive muscle activity and tension.
But this is where proper assessment matters.
Before reaching for the needle, you need to understand:

THESE AREAS OF THE FACE CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE BLINDNESS IF FILLER ENTERS THE WRONG VESSEL. 🚨

And this is exactly why dermal filler training cannot just be:
“Watch me inject, now you have a certificate.”
Certain facial areas have vascular connections to the vessels supplying the eye. If filler is inadvertently injected into an artery, it can travel through the arterial system and cause an ocular vascular occlusion — potentially resulting in partial or complete vision loss.
Higher-risk areas include the:
👃 Nose
👁️ Glabella / between the brows
👄 Nasolabial region
👁️ Periocular areas
🧠 Temple
But here’s the part every injector needs to understand:
There is no “safe” facial area where complications are impossible.
It’s not enough to memorise a list of danger zones.
You need to understand facial vascular anatomy, injection technique, risk assessment, recognition of vascular compromise and — critically — what to do when something isn’t right.
Vision loss following filler is rare, but it is a catastrophic complication when it occurs. Current UK consensus guidance recommends that patients are consented for the rare risk of vision loss and/or stroke and that aesthetic clinicians undertaking filler treatments receive appropriate safety training.
At London Learning Academy, we don’t want you to simply learn WHERE to inject.
We want you to understand WHY, WHEN, WHEN NOT TO — and what to do if something goes wrong.
