Our pupils took part in an art competition with construction company West + Vitorri. The theme was ice cream as the site they are working on at 30-32 Mortimor street, built in 1884, was the site where Agnes B. Marshall, inventor of the icecream cornet, began a cookery school. The winners visited their artwork today and met the site and project managers, who kindly presented us with a huge cheque donation for the school, which the children proudly carried back to school! They have been invited back in July for a tour of the site and icecream! Thank you West and Vitorri for your generous donation!

Today our student Arts Council visited two exhibitions at the Hayward Gallery: Chiharu Shiota: Threads of Life and
Yin Xiuzhen: Heart to Heart. They explored the themes present in the artworks of memory, journeys, identity, sense of place and dreams, in order to get inspiration for our annual art week. Next they’ll be presenting their ideas to the teachers in order to help plan art workshops for art week next term.

This week our Student Arts Councillors were invited to the for a special filming opportunity with art historian Katy Hessel on a tour round the gallery! Katy has written a fantastic book called ‘The history of art without men’ celebrating women artists. She has created a family trail around the gallery to find portraits by women who changed the world with their incredible art. This will be available during the school holidays from their Family Art Cart. The trail will introduce visitors to fascinating women artists with a range of fun activities. Our Arts council had a fantastic time exploring and discussing the portraits with Katy! Thank you to and for this opportunity!
