🪶 What do great young writers have in common?

They borrow words they love.. and make them their own!

❤️ This simple habit is called magpie vocabulary, and it can completely change the way your child approaches writing.

All they need is a little magpie book to jot down any words or phrases they come across that they like. Over time, they start to write with more confidence, variety, and style.

Two claps if you can tell us which book this quote is from? 🧐

💫 Now we know that there are SO many incredible children’s authors, but Roald Dahl will always be one of our childhood favorites.

💛His stories are filled with magic, mischief, and just the right amount of mayhem!

🤍 To celebrate world book day, share this with someone who loves his books as much as we do!

What if writing isn’t as hard as your child thinks? 🤔

🤍 So many 7-9-year-olds struggle with writing and feel like they’ll never get better. But what if they could see just how much they’ve already improved?

This simple letter-writing activity helps children reflect on their progress, feel proud of their growth, and build confidence in their writing skills.

💌 Try it at home! Ask your child to write a letter to their younger self, sharing something they once found tricky but have now improved in.

✍️ Here are some sentence starters to help them begin:

👉 Dear Little Me,

👉 When I was younger, I found ___ really tricky, but now I can ___.

👉 At first, I thought I would never be able to ___, but then I kept practising…

👉 One thing I want you to know is that it’s okay to make mistakes because…

👉 I want to tell you that___ will get easier because…

👉 Love from, Your Older, Wiser Self

👉 Bet you didn’t know this..

Yes we’re Primary School Teachers and Creative Writing tutors BUT.. we both struggled as young writers.

It’s sad to say, but we just felt like some of our teachers didn’t believe in us (we still have flashbacks of our work being ripped out, being made to restart writing pieces because they wasn’t ‘good’ enough and red pen feedback scribbled all over it...🫠)

It wasn’t that we didn’t want to write.. we just needed someone to see our potential and guide us.

🫶That’s why we’re so passionate about helping children build their confidence in writing.

We truly, truly believe that a little belief goes a long way in shaping their creativity and skills.

🤍 Save this reminder: your belief in your child could be the difference that helps them succeed.

🤔 We’re wondering, do you have any school memories that still haunt you? Were you ever told you weren’t good at something and how did that affect your confidence? Let’s chat!

🎒 ‘I don’t want to go back to school!’ 🎒

Is your little one excited to go back to school or are they feeling a bit worried after the holidays?

We know this can be a tricky time for both kids and parents.

As primary school teachers (and parents too!), we’ve seen it all and also know that this is often the term when children really come into their own and make the most progress.

That’s why it’s SO important to ease those post-holiday worries and help them start the term feeling positive and ready to go, go, go!

💡 Swipe through for practical responses to common post-holiday concerns and a teacher’s perspective on why they’ll be just fine once they’re back in the classroom (please trust us on this!)

📌 SAVE this for Sunday night when those tricky conversations might come up or SHARE it with a friend who could use some extra support!

Let’s help our children make this their best term yet. 💪🏼
