How can Myofunctional Therapy help kids and adults? 👅

It’s not just exercises.
It’s retraining how the mouth, tongue and airway function every day.

👶 For children

Myofunctional therapy can help:
• establish nasal breathing 🌬️
• correct tongue posture (tongue up, not down)
• support proper jaw growth 🦷
• reduce mouth breathing & snoring 😴
• improve swallowing patterns
• support speech development
• reduce risk of crowding & relapse

👉 We’re guiding growth early — not fixing problems later.

🧑‍🦰 For adults

Myofunctional therapy can help:
• reduce snoring & support sleep quality 💤
• decrease grinding & jaw tension
• improve tongue posture & airway space
• support orthodontic stability
• improve breathing patterns
• reduce TMJ discomfort

👉 We’re restoring function — not just managing symptoms.

✨ The key principle

Function shapes structure.

If the tongue, lips and breathing work correctly,
everything else has a better chance to develop — or stay stable.

If your child’s posture doesn’t look quite right, don’t ignore it.

Posture affects far more than how a child stands or sits.

It can influence:
• breathing patterns
• jaw and facial development
• bite and teeth alignment
• tongue posture and swallowing
• sleep quality
• balance and coordination
• focus and energy levels….

When the head, jaw, and airway are not in balance, the body often compensates.

✨ The good news: with the right support, these patterns can improve.

💜 At our clinic, we offer a holistic approach to support your child’s airway, posture, and development, including:

👉 Myofunctional Therapy | YTM® Tool Method | Functional Dentistry & Hygiene | Buteyko Breathing | Glossopostural Integration | Dental Sleep Medicine & Airway Screening | Reflexes & Sensory Integration | NLP | Speech & Language Support | Lactation Support

👀 Signs to look for:
❌ mouth open at rest
❌ lips apart during sleep
❌ snoring or noisy breathing
❌ dark circles under the eyes
❌ restless sleep or bedwetting
❌ crowded baby teeth
❌ constant runny or blocked nose
❌ chewing with mouth open
❌ tired or hyper during the day

🧠 What parents should do:

👃 Step 1: Check the nose
Is it clear? Allergies, enlarged tonsils/adenoids or congestion may block nasal breathing.

👅 Step 2: Look at oral function
Tongue posture, lip seal, tongue tie, and chewing patterns all matter.

🩺 Step 3: Get the right assessment
Myo therapist + dentist/orthodontist + ENT if needed.

👅 How Myofunctional Therapy helps

We retrain the muscles and breathing patterns through targeted exercises to:
• support nasal breathing
• improve tongue posture
• stabilise the airway
• improve sleep and development

✨ Mouth breathing is not just a habit — it’s a signal.

Swallowing correctly & myofunctional therapy

Most people swallow over 1,000 times a day.
And every swallow involves the tongue, lips, cheeks, jaw, and airway.

A healthy swallow pattern usually looks like:

* Tongue resting on the palate
* Lips gently closed
* Minimal facial tension
* Teeth lightly together or slightly apart
* Nasal breathing

But many children — and adults — develop dysfunctional swallowing patterns, often linked to:

* Mouth breathing
* Tongue tie
* Low tongue posture
* Prolonged dummy/thumb habits
* Narrow palate development
* Poor oral muscle coordination

Common signs of an incorrect swallow:

* Tongue pushing against the teeth (“tongue thrust”)
* Lip pursing or chin tension when swallowing
* Open-mouth posture
* Messy eating
* Food pocketing in cheeks
* Speech difficulties
* Orthodontic relapse
* Crowding or bite issues

Why does it matter?

The tongue is a powerful muscle.
When it repeatedly pushes against the teeth instead of the palate, it can influence facial growth, bite development, breathing patterns, and long-term oral function.

Myofunctional therapy helps retrain:

* Tongue posture
* Swallowing mechanics
* Lip seal
* Nasal breathing
* Chewing patterns
* Oral muscle coordination

It’s not just “tongue exercises.”
It’s a personalised therapy that addresses the function behind the face, bite, and airway.

Because swallowing correctly is something your body does thousands of times a day — every single day.
