🌏 Earth Day 2026 🌏

Such an exciting day to see a lone bluebell in the forest area today, planted by Year 6 in the Autumn term.

Year 5 were out and instantly thought of ways to make sure the bluebell was able to grow without being trodden on. This area is part of the KS2 playground so was very likely to not be there by the end of the day! A group of children carefully thought of ways to protect it and the other bulbs they could see coming through, putting up little barriers and signs.

Some of the Year 6 children were able to see the bulbs coming through after lunch and many thought it was their bulb that had poked through ♄ That sense of place is so important. The children care so much more about this area now they have had a part in looking after it.

Had a lovely day at Lime Academy Larkswood last week delivering our ’One Snowy Night’ workshop. We helped Percy the Park Keeper look for his animal friends outdoors, discussing where they might live. We then became hedgehogs, squirrels and other animals along the way before warming up with a warm drink around the fiređŸ”„Thanks for having us back!

Outdoor storytelling workshops - World Book Day (and beyond)

I was working in a school over three years ago and heard a teacher say a drama company had cancelled their Stick Man workshop due to a calendar clash. I stepped in and said I could help but it would be delivered outdoors. After all, isn’t this text mostly about his outdoor adventures?

The school agreed and from there, Teach Wild’s Stick Man workshop was born. It was an immediate success and still delights nursery, reception and KS1 children all over London. From that moment more storytelling workshops were created, including many Julia Donaldson favourites such as The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child and Superworm as these rhyming texts, full of repetition are familiar, family favourites. In all of the storytelling workshops we use our bodies, props and phrases from the text to engage the children as we walk our way through the story. The children always leave with something they’ve created to take home with them too.

This year, we are adding to the story collection just before World Book Day. Yes it’s another Julia Donaldson and includes a cunning 🩆 and a villainous rat🐀! Can you guess?

Happy new year all. Had a lovely morning sunrise walk with my daughter/friends and boy did it deliver. Crisp, frosty morning walk with plenty of crunch underfoot. It was beautiful out there!

Not been out the door this early for weeks and definitely recommend it as sunrise was at 8.06am this morning - a respectable time. Wanted to make the most of the clear sky as it has been pretty grey over past few weeks.

I'm back up and running from Monday 6th so if thinking of booking any outdoor learning workshops or forest school sessions then please do get in touch as have a few slots available particularly for the Big Schools Bird Watch, National Storytelling Week and World Book Day.

Bonkers for conkers - Who knew all I needed was a bunch of conkers, a hammer, hot water, bucket and whisk to make the 'most bubbliest soap ever!' Our mud kitchen items haven't looked so clean.

Just listen to that shriek of pure joy too 😊 love when you show children something so unexpected

Wow it's the last day of September and I've barely come up for breath!

I've been rushed off my feet delivering sessions in new environments and some familiar schools. Any spare time I do have you'll find me with a bag collecting nature's treasures whilst out and about. There is an abundance to collect this time of year such as conkers which have been used for some land art, making spiders, conker painting and this week I think we will try and make some conker soap.

What have you been doing with them?

Hello all đŸ‘‹đŸ» It’s been a while since I've been on here so thought would post to say hi and to introduce myself to new followers - I've been told I'm not the best at showing my face!

I'm Melissa and have been working outside the classroom for over six years having swapped the classroom for the outdoors. I deliver one-off outdoor learning workshops which can be for enrichment purposes, linked to the curriculum and child-led forest school sessions for EYFS, KS1 & KS2.

I'm really looking forward to getting back to work after a long break and have lots of new schools on board. I'm particularly excited to work this year delivering child-led weekly sessions for Y1-Y6 throughout the academic year. Bring on the mud and fun!

* Disclaimer - I won't be offended if you don't recognise me as usually don't look this polished with my cap, muddy finger nails, windswept hair and waterproof clothing đŸ€Ł

Good luck to all the teachers out there with Sunday night jitters for the new academic year 😘 If you have contacted me during the break, please bear with me - I'll be in touch this week and please get in touch for more info if interested in taking learning outside the classroom. Link in bio

Superworm Outdoor Storytelling Workshop - Our new workshop has been a huge success with children and staff recently. It’s such a popular, well-loved story and our interactive approach engages and motivates children from the moment it begins.

One of the major advantages of booking our workshops is they can be delivered in your playground/ outdoor space - even in a concrete jungle! It means you don’t have the hassle of organising any helpers on an external trip, two classes can have the session in a half day session and it gets teachers to view your outdoor space in a different light.

Please check out our website to see what we have available, although many of our workshops have not been fully updated. If you don’t find what you are looking for, we can make bespoke workshops that will work in your setting at no additional cost.

It may be soggy at the moment but boy what muddy fun to be had! Especially when your friends decide to make a cake for your 8th birthday. You should have seen the smiles.

“A tail poked out of a log pile house. Could this be the tail of the Big Bad Mouse?”

Our interactive Gruffalo’s Child storytelling workshop captivates children’s imaginations by using props and our bodies to bring the story to life in the outdoors. We then play nature based games and finish creating characters from the story using clay and natural materials to take home.

This storytelling workshop can be adapted to suit EYFS and KS1. Please click on our website to find out more
